    Kirra/Coolangatta

I have been working near the Gold Coast Airport this week and have been going for a walk along the esplanade at lunch time. I have noticed a nice looking sandbank developing about 50 metres off shore with, what to this relatively untrained eye looks like a nice hole/gutter for whiting or dart .
I have not really heard of much fishing activity at this beach and was wondering of anyone has fished here and what it is like. The water looked virtually glassed out Monday to Wednesday. Would more wave action be needed to attract the feeding fish? Did see a guy fishing there Wednesday midday who hadn't got any fish; just one bite. It is good someone else at least thought it looked like it was worth fishing.

Unfortunately with work and family committments I haven't been able to try it for myself and I am back at the Brisbane office now.

Would be interest in any response from any one who knows/fishes this beach.

    Cheers

I live a few hundred meters from Kirra beach and am frequently down there. I have seen some reasonable choppers and Bream pulled of there at times. Fished there a few times myself with worms and caught ordinary dart. Personally when beach fishing I prefer the less people walking around me the better so I usually drive south if going for a beach fish.
I have seen some nice looking gutters more towards the Tugan end. Try it and see? as I live close to it and never see/hear much about the fishing there I avoid it and prefer to drive elsewhere for a sniff.

Thanks mate. Hoepfully I will be down that way again soon for work and will throw a rod in the car and try and duck away early one afternoon for a fish. Worse thing that can happen is that I waste an hour standing in the fresh air and Sunshine and don't catch anything.

I've been there quite a few times - along Kirra/Balinga. Often are very nice gutters there.
Often get choppers, and still holding out for a Jewie at some stage But my favourite mates ... the net-massacre-bycatch-killers also patrol that stretch .... so its kinda up & down depending on when last they cleaned out the surf!!
I have only fished there in the dark though - either morning or night .... so that is my advice.
Gimme a shout if u down again, and I'll come and join in.

Thanks, will let you know when if I get down that way again soon. I have only really targetted whiting/dart/bream in the surf on an 8 foot general purpose rod I have. Never really geared up to chase the bigger fish in the surf.

    Cheers
