Saltist Lever Drags - How Are They Going?
A little while back i purchased one of the new Saltist Lever Drags in the single speed 6.4 retreive version, an LD40H. Apart from a ratchet screw coming loose in it, it has been a good reel so far but hasn't done allot of work, biggest workload being a week of serios abuse at frazer. I'm considering buying another one but i see that there was some negative feedback about these reels drags etc earlier when the first came out.
Just looking for feedback from anyone who has one of these new saltist lever drags and who has given it some more work than i have. Given they havn't been out for all that long just wanted to do my homework before i get another.

Hi Out Station, I have the 40 - 2 speed. Given it a reasonable work out and no issues thus far. If you look at this link, this guy pulls the reel apart and services them. Only issue he finds was the drag washer wasn't greased properly. He states that it is a pretty good reel.

Yeah I'm in the same boat as I only use mine occasionally as well. But as far mine has handled everything thrown at it nannies, coral trout, red's. the only issue Ive had were the drag washers burining out but since that it has run flawlessly

Re: Saltist Lever Drags - How Are They Going?
i have the 40 2 speed and attempted to break it at the hookup, locked up drag from 60 metres on numerous fish and could not hurt it, i have since used it offshore down here being a little less harsh on it and so far so good, i guess only time will tell. The 30th single speed i have is now 12 months old and has had similar abuse and it is still going strong.

Thanks for the feedback all, looks like with a bit of a drag service and overall greasing that things should be ok.
JB - Saltist at $369 versus Tallica at $645, the Tallica just seems to expensive to me but everyone to there own.

Re: Saltist Lever Drags - How Are They Going?
Scott,
I know someone who has had some problems with water getting into the drag of his Saltist LD30 2 speed, but other than that he's happy with the reel and has caught a lot of good fish on it, including a 15kg amberjack (which I personally witnessed) and a marlin - not bad for a tiny overhead reel weighing only 434g. He's keen to buy the new Saltiga Lever Drag SALD30-2spd, though, because it's advertised as "washable", so it sounds like the drag is sealed, and it has a higher max. drag of 26lb.
I can get a new Talica 12 single speed delivered in four days from the US for $410, from an ebay store (and that's including $52 postage!).
Last week, I bought a 2010 Certate 3000 from Tackle Warehouse in Coorparoo because it was only $30 dearer than the overseas price including postage. I think Daiwa Australia must have realised they're losing too many sales to overseas ebay / online stores. Hopefully, Shimano Australia will follow suit eventually, with newer models.
Brent.
