Had planned to fish with a mate last night but he had to pull out at the last minute. We were going to start at about 8pm, but I was a bit ho-hum about fishing on my own so procrastinated in front of the PC until 10pm when I finally caved in and went out for a fish.
Went to spot A which is a spot that is either very very hot or very very cold, tonight it was very very cold. I caught one bream for about two hours fishing. I decided to call it quits but had a change of heart when I was about 3/4 the way home... I pass my maroochy jewie/grunter spot to get home, so it's easy to cave in haha.
Anyway, it was very quiet for the first hour and a bit with only one bream landed so I decided to use up what was left of my defrosted prawns and then head on home... I got to the last few prawns when things started to heat up (tide had just started to run out), I had a heap of bites but they were all quite small.
I was about to cast out one outfit when I saw another in the holder bounce slightly, I figured it for a baby bream but picked it up anyway. There was another light tap, barely worth striking at but I did anyway, call me impatient.. Well, all hell broke lose. It was quite clear from the outset that it was going to make up for the well past legal jewie I lost at my feet the afternoon before. After an exciting fight I landed my first jack for the 10/11 season. Honestly, I don't see myself topping it too easy either.. It's all downhill from here.
The very next cast, on my second last chunk of prawn I caught a healthy 30cm grunter.
All fish released in good health, though the jack had to keep a little jewelry.
Oh, the jack was caught on a pflueger asaro 3-6kg, pflueger medalist 6035, 15 or 20lb braid (cant remember which) with a 12lb leader. Very impressed with the rod, it's the first significant fish I have caught on it.
