    MILF near Mud

No the other kind of MILF , Mother In Law Fish.
I caught a whopper Slatey (62cm) near Mud Island yesterday.
I haven't got a mother inlaw so I had to give it to a Kiwi instead.
    I was a bit disappointed it wasn't a Snapper.
My first in Moreton Bay, anyone else catch these, are they common in Moreton Bay?

They are pretty common in the bay around the islands mate as well as the Rainbow channel. 62cm is a good fish.

Common? I have been fishing Mud for quite a while now, and pulled a lot of fish, but never seen one.

They are not so bad. Spruce it up a bit with a bit of currie powder in the olive oil and they are ok. Or give to a kiwi

I have never caught one in the Bay either Cheech and I have been fishing Mud on and off for about as long as you have, I remember when you joined Ausfish.
The Kiwi said it tasted really good, said something aboout a tempura batter or something and will take any I get, I might have to try the next one myself, if there is a next one.
I did cut its throat and put it straight on an ice slurry.
That is a 95litre esky it is sitting on and knife is 30 cm.
    For the technically minded.
Caught on a whole banana prawn, BTR 3500 , 15 lb braid, 20 lb flourocarbon leader, 6/0 penetrator hook, pea size sinker running down to hook, I was chasing snapper.

It did, about the same as a Snapper of the same size is my guess, I am guessing this one at a tad over 5 kgs (62 cm), had few good runs in him and then a couple more straight down at the boat.

Is this one - caught off the beach at 1770 last year? Some burk told me it was a drummer - then a Morwong - now a slatey. Either way it tasted pretty good - but then again I will eat Pike at a push!

I had a look in Grants, there are about 4 species of the things, the one I caught had a real magenta tint to it.
