They are pretty common in the bay around the islands mate as well as the Rainbow channel. 62cm is a good fish.
No the other kind of MILF , Mother In Law Fish.
I caught a whopper Slatey (62cm) near Mud Island yesterday.
I haven't got a mother inlaw so I had to give it to a Kiwi instead.
I was a bit disappointed it wasn't a Snapper.
My first in Moreton Bay, anyone else catch these, are they common in Moreton Bay?

They certainly go hard for their size

Not a lot but i have caught 2 in the last 4 years and they pull hard to. They don,t taste that bad and they eat em up in cairns but fresh not old in freezer. Cheers
I have never caught one in the Bay either Cheech and I have been fishing Mud on and off for about as long as you have, I remember when you joined Ausfish.
The Kiwi said it tasted really good, said something aboout a tempura batter or something and will take any I get, I might have to try the next one myself, if there is a next one.
I did cut its throat and put it straight on an ice slurry.
That is a 95litre esky it is sitting on and knife is 30 cm.
For the technically minded.
Caught on a whole banana prawn, BTR 3500 , 15 lb braid, 20 lb flourocarbon leader, 6/0 penetrator hook, pea size sinker running down to hook, I was chasing snapper.
Is this one - caught off the beach at 1770 last year? Some burk told me it was a drummer - then a Morwong - now a slatey. Either way it tasted pretty good - but then again I will eat Pike at a push!
Seen them caught on the Northern side of Peel a few times.
