    Moreton Squire 14/8/10

The boat has been in the shed all winter due to Mum dragging Dad kicking and screaming all over europe for 2.5 months. So with the forecast the way it was for Saturday morning, it was a foregone conclusion that we'd be in it.

Launched at 5am from Bribie and shot across a nice flat bay at 25kts. Rounded the Cape before sunup and watched the sunrise over a cloudless horizon as we blasted over a rolling swell out to Deep Tempest. Pulled up at about 6.25am on the northern end of Tempest and started our first drift. Not a breath of wind and the boat is not moving. The drogue is sitting straight under the boat and our lines are going straight down instead of streaming out the back. A few nice shows on the sounder in 80m of water. No sooner than the first bait had hit the bottom we were both hooked up and two nice squire were flapping in the bottom of the boat. turned around to look for the measuring stick and found that it had been left at home. Not a worry, they were both definitely over so quickly bled and into the bin. Lines back to the bottom and repeat. By 7 am we had 8 nice pan sized squire on ice in the esky and starting to wonder what we were going to do for the rest of the morning if we bagged out. Then the bite virtually shut down. Two more squire that were close to legal but not wanting to be caught out if they weren't were returned. We spent the next couple of hours slowly drifting around and we picked up a few pigfish and an oversized sweep to round out the bag.

It was a beautiful day on the water and a lovely way to come back from a prolonged absence. Turned for home at 11am and at 25kts flew all the way back again. The bloke measuring fish for the DPI study put the ruler over the fish and the smallest came abck at 35cm fork length and the largest 45cm fork length. No monsters but a great eating size bag.

Nice pan size fish. It seems they shut down most everywhere.
Top conditions for a boat run any how.

    Cheers
