    Swains trip 6-8-2010 to 13-8-2010

Hi all just a few photos of our trip to the Swains Reef on the Iron Joy, the photo of the radar is of the storm that came through at 4am that brought the Bell Cay unstuck

    Hi Andrew

Glad to see you guys got some great fish. Dale mentioned you were up there and obviously we hoped it wasn't the Bell Cay you were on. The photo of the radar showed a fairly intense storm and riding out a big blow makes you realise how vulnerable we are at times to what mother nature dishes out.
Looks like you will be eating well at your place for a while.

    Cheers
    Bill

There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot

I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges

Up here we Use Hussar as baits for real RED FISHS (SHSIIFDER)

The spanards where a bit quite this year compared to this time last year we would have got 1 or 2 a day around the 8kg mark, we did get one or two cobes as well. There was heaps of mac tuna getting into the bait fish

Thanks for the report Seastorm. Were you able to get out each day on the dorries given the weather? Nice electronics set up, I assume BYO or are the dorries now set up with sounders? I am heading out on Iron Joy in 2 weeks and cant wait. Did you do much trolling or night fishing? Any success on live baits or SP's?

    Hi Dammo
We lost one session in the dorries due to weather, and all the other times it was hard work but was made a bit easier as we brought along our own electronics. We did a bit of trolling in the dorries and got a few spanish and shark mackeral. Each night the boys would fish off the back of the boat with one or two fish comming onboard we also put live baits out under balloons wich accounted for a few mackeral and cobia. I had a bit of luck with the octo jigs or shamino lucanus jigs I would use these when the grassies where robbing baits. This trip we got a lot of parrot and coral trout with only 5 or 6 reds all around the 5kg mark I think I was the only one to get a nannie for the trip. Adam was the skipper for our trip and his other half Took was the cook.

Went out on the Iron Joy 2 years ago great boat,,, Looks like we had similar conditions,, Winds to 50knots for 4 days, caught heaps for the first 2 days then very slow ( hardly any dorie use)..
Have they still got that little ratbag blond haired deckie (can't think of his bloody name) top bloke,,Actually both deckies & the skipper were great..
Well done mate love to get back up there

    Cheers Baz

    Nice work Andrew,

We went on the Capricorn star in May, we caught quite a few spaniards, and lots of trout, we didnt get too many Reds though, approximately 5 or so, 3 10kg + models and 2 5kg fish.

We could only get out a couple of days on the dorys, it was quite lumpy round that time, the trip out was Exciting --NOT, 2mtr swell plus 30knts.

Still waiting for the photos to be assembled, will put up a post..

Biggest chinaman for the trip was 14.5 kg, actually biggest fish for the trip (not mine tho).

Just wonder about Zac, twenty something, from SA? suspect its the same young bloke from our trip.

    Regards
    Honda.
