The morning that we lost the right to fish.

    Hello All,
I just returned from the fishing rally at Tweed.
What happened was that their were some speakers, a few pollies, a few businessmen and some fishing club talkers. All very well.
The guy from the Greens was there but was denied acces to the microphone.
There was a scuffle, the greenie was abused almost to the point of assault and had his flyers scattered on the ground.
Guess what the TV cameras recorded.
We fishos need to remember that fact and fiction does not win elections or make policy but rather public perceptions.
The public perception of fishoes will now be a bunch of mob thugs who readily resort to violence.
The Greens set a trap and we walked right into it.
If any of you know the blokes who did the damage please keep them on a shorter leash in future.

They looked like young Pros, maybe? Certainly hard young men.

You're right that this will be cast a certain way by the News, sadly. But as far as the long term outlook is concerned, we're going to have Green rule anyway, so I'm not sure it hurt to have that snivelling little bastard see how it's going to become unsafe for people like him to even walk down the road...

There will eventually be dead Greenies in this Country. They are taking away the things that make people happy and free...

    Cheers,

Hi I too just got back.
The scuffle was unfortunate but the green person should have really known better. What does he expect from a group of people about to lose their jobs and businesses because some political group decides they want to stop people fishing from totally political not scientific reasons.

Did you read the crap he was handing out. Of course some people will be emotional.

Ive been shouted at and abused at polling booths by so called greenies so they aren't innocent either.

I was to the side of the crowd and all I heard was people shouting "no violence no violence" then a loud chant of "go away".

I disagree with the public getting the perception we are a bunch of thugs.

    cheers

Damn right he was denied access to the mic. He was there to sh!t stir and sh!t stir he did.
He got himself some free publicity and I would bet my last dollar he was HOPING someone would get physical with him.
I actually think it wasn't that bad and he deserved the serving he got. I'd expect the same in a reverse setting.

Only way top combat this is to get the people who can present well to explain the situation to the media and get a sound bite in that the young blokes want a job and just how much time and money the rec and commercual fishermen put into conservation of the resource on a scientific basis.

Get someone smart and with a media presence to speak with the media now and get their view on teh local radio . The TV may still run the footage but the context will be changed.

Nothing wrong with the old line that the greens bloke was abusive and threatening when asked to leave.

It is the media smothing all the big parties do all the time.

Was this greens fellow actually running for a seat or is he just a part of the rent-a-crowd mob?

Do what the greenies do..protest and protest loud and strong..if some people get the shirts over it..tough. The Greens came to prominence over the Franklin Dam protests..hardly peaceful. Brown got arrested and jailed in that lot. Just this past week the Greens weren't all that nice and convivial in stopping the seismic trucks out Surat basin way.
Bugger em..anarchy gets the news also. Any publicity is good publicity.

Looks far better on the news..people with some fire in their belly than just shown as standing around listening to some people talking.

Bit of controversy?? what is the saying..any media is good media and media is what we need first and foremost.

Outside of the typical moderates lobotomised diplomacy..... a bit of controversy is a turbocharger.

Re: The morning that we lost the right to fish.

As soon as I got vocal and started quizzing that idiot, the cameras came running, but I hardly got to finish my question when those pro's jumped in. The cameras were right there. The pro got nasty and was first yelling at the green guy, then there were several people holding him back before he managed to almost push the greenie over. Was excellent to watch, then timmie had the whole mob chanting at him to piss off.

The best part of it was the same angry pro tore up all the greenies information sheets, and threw them all over the ground. It was not the greenie dude that picked it up, it was the secretary of the (richmond??) fishing club, and that was captured by the cameraman.

BTW, the paper the greenie used looks like fresh paper straight from trees!

Re: The morning that we lost the right to fish.

The rec fishers need someone with intelligence to debate the issue with Bob Brown on TV before the election to remove all the emotion and crowd interference,to get some real answers.
"They want to preserve the fish stocks"FOR WHAT PURPOSE.
"Marlin numbers are down".ACCORDING TO WHO.BIG GAME FISHERS DONT KILL FISH ANY MORE ITS ALL TAG AND R.WITH A VERY FEW EXCEPTIONS.
"They want-------" THEY ARE A POLITICAL PARTY PUT THERE TO REPRESENT THE PEOPLE.NOT THEIR OWN PRECONCEIVED IDEALS.
Shut down Australian fishing and it puts the pressure on overfished and uncontrolled countries of the world.
I FOR ONE REFUSE TO EAT VIET CATFISH.

I love the way that twat said "We want to save them for future generations!"

Does that mean when the next generation comes along they will open up the fishery? I doubt it. How is that saving it for anybody? It's locking it up so no one can EVER have it.

What a jerk. They are all jerks. I just so hate Greenies.

The Darwin boys had a rally today and got about 30 boats through the town. Got on the local news. I get the feeling that the next will be bigger as its only a start.

Exactly what I thought when i read the opening post. It's a bit like that idiot that held up the l sign the other day and that 60yo guy tried to slog him one for it. If that wasn't set up I don't know the meaning of set up. This smacks of set up too. Get the cameras there, make a stance against people who stand to lose their livelyhood and just watch it boil over. Like mentioned, he knows just what the media will use on the news and it would not be the fishos speaking but the scuffles.
