Is there anything I need to know about crossing the Brisbane Bar? Like high tide/low tide/half tide, winds etc. thanks

yep, it doesnt exist. TheBrisbane river bar is simply a river mouth unless its blowing hard and then its simply wind chop. No bar in the sense of South Passage or Wide Bay.

a little more info Hally,
do you mean the South Passage bar between Moreton and Straddie or the Brisbane river bar, inside Moreton at the entrance of the Brissy river?
The South Passage can be tricky - but as Marty said the entrance to the Bris river is not an issue.
Having said that, the South passage has three channels - the Amity (which is closed up at the moment, the middle and the northern - the Northern is the most obvious and defined - if you have the marks for the middle you can easily see it and make sence of it - the Amity is a problem at the moment.
Typical bar crossing protocol,
Always best from half tide up on the run in - pressure waves build up on the outgoing and can be a bit uncomfortable if the wind is in the North East quadrant.
The have been quite a few incidences on it over the years - always watch for that rogue glassy on that comes from nowhere - even on a "Good Day" lots of experienced blokes have come unstuck. I always treat it with the utmost respect.
Bill Corten's bar crossing course is worth investing in - not just for the skills, but you really get to know the South Passage Bar and Bill helps with the co-ords of the various channels. He fills in all the gaps - worth the investment of a day.

Hey Rhys,
Amity is my fav home is it non existant atm?
Marty
Yeah Marty,
Last couple of times out - it just closes up and goes nowhere.
I happened after the cyclone swells earlier this year and we've yet to have wind and tide to clear it.
The Middle and North are good as gold though
cheers

the brisbane bar isnt to flash in a small tinny in a NE wind with a runout tide, its got a lot more dodgy since the walls were extended, high tide is the go and watch out for shipping
Yep - I can agree! I've come in one afternoon from St Helena back to Pinkenba ramp and we had meter high white water for 1-2k's inside from the entrance
It even extended all the way up beyond the gateway bridge, though not as bad as the river entrance.
It was blowing an easterly combined with outgoing tide, so most waves were standing up nice and high.
A lot of throttle control needed as you're surfin down the pressure waves. Lets just say the ramp was a welcome sight
thanks all hoping to get out soon
