    Dilemma

    HI guys,
I have a problem. 2 years ago, a mate and i went in a local fishing classic. we went halves in everythiing over 3 days (bait, fuel , tackle ect.). on the last day I put him right on top of the of the comp winning snapper of 7.2kg. STOKED.... The prize was $500 , a navman worth $600 & a yamaha back pack with a few goodies..... After 2 weeks he came good and offered me the GPS if I gave him $100, which i did ....... 12 months later the same comp. I won the lucky angler prize.. 9.9hp suzuki 4 stroke. the mate slid straight up to me and wanted to buy it off me cheep, I said I have to think about it.. a week later I rang old mate and said im keeping the motor, but it is at my house anytime he wanted to use it.
that was at easter. the outboard hasn,t been started since, so i put it on ebay and sold it ..... I am going to buy my mate a down rigger that he has always wanted & myself a new sounder with the money so we can bust it up next year...
Question is have i done the right thing or not... (too late anyway )

I don't think you have done anything wrong mate. You won the prize, do as you please.

    Re: Dilemma

Sounds fair to me, but if there's any friction you should probably have the chat about prizes before you go out again. Sounds like you're both about 50/50 at the moment if you get him the downrigger, and that should be close enough.

If you feel you have done the right thing then you have. Your mate may think along other lines but what the heck. If he is a true mate there will be no issue.

    Re: Dilemma

some people may look at it and say you have done the wrong thingsome may say you havent, but only you know how good a mates you are!! If that was my best mate i know it would be fine but i have other mates that might not be so happy. IMHO

    Cheers for the replies
I dont think its going to be a big drama, he is a good mate, ill let you all know it goes next week when I rock up to his place with the downrigger . just needed a couple of opinions to see if others were with me or not
    thanks

    Re: Dilemma

i don't reckon you've done anything wrong. If the motor hasn't been used by either one of you after you offered him use anytime he wanted...well it obviously wasn't that important to him.

He'd probably get more use out of a downrigger anyways

    Re: Dilemma

So your mate offered you part of his prize at 1/6th of it's value, he wanted part of your prize the next year but you declined. It seems that even though you went 50/50 on the expenses you had no agreement on the event of winning a prize, I guess you are pinning your hopes on having a good mate who will understand your reluctance to sell him a motor cheap. You probably should have given him first offer at the motor that you weren't using when you decided to sell, maybe the fact that he didn't take up your previous offer could be an indication of his feeling of the whole affair. BTW have you already arranged to go to the same comp again, this might be another indication if he has decided that he can't make it.

    You'll be right mate...............no problems that a beer or 2 wouldn't fix.
