Headed out with Honda900 through the seaway in the dark at 5am, tried to get livies but they didn't want to play so we moved east to our first and most productive spot for the day.
To cut a long story short I sent down a 7 inch gulp which was taken by what I thought was an ok snap, untill he realised he was hooked, the next few minutes had a bit of "yep it's a good fish might need the net ...or the gaff". The gaff didn't make it on board this trip so when old man snapper got to the surface we were in trouble .
The fish got to the surface and was not too happy, he also managed to get tangled in the para anchor rope and as we tried to net him he managed to get out of the net 3 times, you can imagine the words that were spoken , we did our best to get him back in the net but it wasn't going to happen (I thought about grabing him by the mouth more than once but restrained myself), in the end I stuck my hand over the side grabed him under the gills and threw him in the boat .
So I have a new PB snapper now of 9kg on the scales, 95cm long on 20lb line on a rod I built can't get much better than that!!
We ended up with a few more snaps with Honda getting a nice 4kg model also.

Adam
