Hi folks...
I live on the Sunny Coast and my mate is in Brisbane. Decided on a meet half way and thought about fishing the Caboolture River in a 4.7 mtr quinny.
Never fished there before, and I have a few questions if some of you dont mind helping me out.
Can I get up the river in my boat?
Is it worth the drive down , or should I stick with the Passage, or the Maroochy river?
What is the fishing like there?
Any particular time of day, or tides?
Anything else I need to know?
Hope someone can help me here.
regards
Mike

The bottom 1/4 of the tide is a bit shallow around Bakers Flats, stick to the markers. Apart from that it is fairly decent water with some quite deep holes spread around upstream of the sandbanks.
I find that fishing the Cab river is more productive more often than the passage due to a little less pressure and more confined system. Not all the decent fish reside in the holes is one good hint for this river, many a good fish is to be had in water about 2-3m deep between the holes.
6kg lines will handle almost anything in there.
Jack.
Hey mate, have caught plenty of good flatty in the river recently on soft plastics. Best fish have been caught in around 1-2mtrs of water. There are plenty of good banks to work on the lower water but take it easy on the bottom half of tide, it gets REALLY shallow As mentioned above. Also you will have to go to the beachmere boat ramp as The council have closed down the Uhlmann Rd ramp until November.
Good Luck

Thanks folks for all your replies.
I might give it a shot, if for no other reason than simply a change of scenery.
Flatties would be a good target, since I prefer to eat them over bream anyway!
regards all,
mike
mike mouth of king john ck. on an outgoing tide use your sounder whilst motoring into the ck and u will see that at the mouth of the ck it drops off into the caboolture river i beleive its around a 1.5 mtr drop from memory so on an outgoing tide you have all sorts of fish sitting behind this ledge feeding on whatever gets flushed out of king john ck. plastics are the go. there are huge numbers of flathead there. released over a dozen this sunday gone all within an hour and all caught on squidgy wrigglers. cant help you much more then that mate! good luck!
Burley, that's a great effort. I've fished Cab river for 15yrs and have never caught a fish at king john so don't worry about it now. Caught plenty every where else though. It's funny how you don't fish an area when you haven't had success but some one else can clean up.
Mike to give you an extra spot with some variation. From the beachmere boat ramp turn left and you'll see a bunch of moored boats, there's a wreck just past the boats which is only about 500m left of the ramp. (there is a small sign signalling the wreck) If you go in between the wreck and the mangrove lined bank on the last hour of the incoming tide.
I've done quite well there with soft plastics. The bank drops off pretty quick and there is a gutter along the bank.
Hope that helps.
Bermo
i have a couple of mates who fish around the banks at the mouth with placs and very rarely wouldnt be able to bag on flattys if they kept all the legal ones they catch, few weeks ago 1 of them nailed a nice 76cm jewy on a 1/4 switch blade to. run out tide always seems to produce the flatys
