Can I squeeze more ponies out of it?

Quick question for all the Yamaha guru’s or just those in the know.

I have recently upgraded one of my boats and the result is I’ve gone to another new brand of motor, well for me anyway! I now have a 2001 30DMH Yamaha.
My question, should you choose to answer it, is this motor a detuned 40 and if so what is required and approximate cost to get more punch from it. Previous owner reckons its good for 40kmh, but my little kipper was good for 57 in favourable conditions. So obviously I have a "need for speed!"

    As always thanks in advance

Hi mate can you cut and paste onto the thread the manufacturer specifications of your motor and the one you would like it to be.

    G'day FNQC
Thats the thing I cant find anything on it from the net. I realise that sometimes its a major thing, but I also believe that it could be something as simple as a restrictor. Not being too savy with things mechanical , nor how to get the best of the world wide web , my next option was here and drawing on the pool of knowledge that resides here.

If it is infact a detuned / restricted 40, then I'd like to get a hold of them extra ten ponies. Reason is apart from my thrillseeking tendencies is the all important dash for the best / preferred spots on the local; bream tournament scene. I realise I wont be able to match the high powered yank boats, but be nice to keep pace with a few others and maybe get past a few as well

On face value, the 30 D is 496cc and the 40 V is 698cc, sharing the 50hp displacement.... so no. It's not possible.

Best bet is to fine tune engine height and prop.

Yeah your stuffed new engine time, generally cubic capacity still reigns supreme unless it's a Verado.

Number of cylinders the more the better helps also.

Go the 40 (or 50 ) if the boat can handle it.... I have a 50 yamaha on my thundercat.... very sweet motor.

Tell your lady it's cheaper to buy bigger now than upgrade later

Agreed Dave, dont think u can EVER have TOO MUCH power
New rig is a second hand job so no sway with that arguement.

Got to be a safety element there. What if the weather blows up and you are too slow to get home in time and miss a hot meal. Can be all sorts of health issues involved with having a slow boat.
