    Hi guys,

Slightly off topic but I picked up a bottom rig for deep sea fishing from forum member Trevelly from brisbane, if anyone wants to have a look at it I can send some photos or bring it past in Cairns one weekend.

    Cheers.

Quick trip report from yesterday. Plan a was to hit a few wrecks in search of fingermark. Pulled up at snapper wreck with a roaring current. First dive down visibility down deep was horrendous 3 to 4m at best. The resident grouper decided to come out of the murk and get up in my grill to say hi which had me on edge in the filthy water. We persisted for while only seeing true trevaly and barracuda was too dirty for fingermark. Decided to head in to the coast for a look the water here was also filthy. Was 9 30 by this stage and decided stuff it and went to the reef. Vis was a good 20m out there was very nice. Ended up with 12 trout a few spangles and big eye sea bream.

    Looks some good fishing!

I have a 3.7m fibreglass boat and was wondering if anyone would be ok with sharing some reefs that I could get out to off Cairns launching at Trinity?

Have been looking around for a book or something to list the spots but can't find anything.

    Any help appreciated.

Not sure if I'd recommend going out in a 3.7mtr. Maybe other members know somewhere.

Yep - hitting the "reef" out from the beaches in a 12 footer is a bit ambitious for mine. Though on a good day there's no reason you couldn't get to the Double Island Wrecks if you know what you're doing or even fish Double Island itself which is much closer. That said - I have regularly fished the Green Island Wreck, Pixie and Oyster in my 4m tinny - it all depends on how big of a 12 footer it is- but you'd be very keen to go any distance offshore in that small a boat.

Look up the Fish Finder Magazine in the news agents - it will have the starter marks you are looking for.

If you aren't just tied to the northern beaches - you could hit the Franklin islands on a good day (6-7nm out from Deeral) - though you'd want to be confident in the weather and in the boat/your ability in case it did come up a bit.

So do you live out at the Beaches? as If you like I could catch up and give you some ideas worth pursuing . As others have said you have some limitations in getting to the main reef safely consistently, but there are a few good options I could offer?

    PM me if youre interested
    Cheers
