Opinions please. New 300 hp v6 Yami 4 strokes. Running new colour 5" screen. Great new 4.2L motor, great prop design great brains behind it. What do you recon
well I think both you guys should do a bit of research on some US forums where big HP is very common, the Yamaha 4 stroke in the 200+ HP gets a very bad report for a huge amount of owners, just because it is a Yamaha does not mean it is the be all to end all, if I owned (especially) the 225HP I would be doing a lot of research. Now beofre all the yammie owners throw rocks at me, I have owned a couple and they are a great engine, and I would own another one, but I would think long and hard about a bigHP 4 stroke, I reckon I would be looking at other brands myself.
just for the ones that think I am beating up Yamaha, here is a link to a recent forum post about severe corrosion on a 225 HP 4 stroke and belive me it is not an isolated issue. There is plenty more on some of the most respected forums in the US.
Ive done about 30mins behind the wheel of a new HH 650R with a 300 on it and was amazed. Torque to boot, 96kph at WOT and a rediculous cruise speed of about 60kmh travelling 1.7lt ph at 4000rpm. Love the display unit and the fly by wire controls are fantastic, a little hard to get used to but once you have its hard to go back to a normal cable box. Were still waiting for the special prop to arrive, apparently that will make it even better again!
35lph @ 60km/h sounds a bit closer to the mark, figured it was a typo.
Have to agree with Noelm USA owners appear to be having some seriously corrosion issues with the big Yamaha 4 strokes, although no mention of the problems in Aust yet.
there is not that many in use here compared to the US, there has been issues with a lot of the bigger HP, the 225 is a particular internal corrosion issue, resulting in a very expensive repair bill for literaly hundreds of owners, and if out of warranty, Yamaha is wiping their hands of it. That being said, I still say the are a fine motor and would happily own one, but the poster asked for opinions, and this is mine.
just read the forum on corrision in yamaha 225 - 250 hps one needs to be concerned and have inspections done with water pump replacements ... not good.
Thanks guys, lots of the posts in the link talk about the older yamaha's ie early 2000-2005, I have not heard of this problem over here nor can I find the problem on any aussie forums? Thanks for your replies. I have spoken to a few pros and they all like them but like anything it is a new v6 300. I guess I will know soon enough
