Hey all, just moved to sunny coast finally. Just looking for any tips for flatties noosa river. Shore based at the moment. Will be purchasing a boat in the near future and will post a thread for that later on suggestions for what to buy....
Just my tip but pflueger 7foot 2-4kg bream matched with a say 1500 shimano symetre or stradic with 2 or 3 kg crystal fireline with 12 lb leader, 1/4 oz no 1 hook heads with either 2.5 inch berkley t tails or 3 inch minnows and you have a great flattie outfit.
They don't sponsor me but they should - Gulps, Gulps, Gulps. 4 Inch Pearl Watermelon Minnow on a 1/6th 1/0 jighead. I have caught a few monsters either side of the Weyba Road Bridge. Just jig the plastic along the sand banks - good luck.
The mouth of Lake Doonella landbased beside the bridge is a dead set haven for flathead with bait lures or plastics. Similarly Weyba Creek shallows behing the Noosa Sound are well worth wading for them too.
A good tip for this time of the year I reckon is to stop short of the bank and have a flick in a few different directions before you get down to the waterside. Sometimes if you don't you can walk down to the water's edge and scare them off from the shallows. They don't mind a bit of a sunbake in the cold sometimes.
