Fishing gentlemens hours, Kyle & I hit Peel around 9.00am yesterday. Perfect conditions on the bay meant lots of boats out. Our plan was to hit the shallow reefs and mangrove edges for bream on the rising tide.
While we were waiting for the tide to come in we fished plastics at our usual snapper spots for a couple of undersize fish, but the sheer volume of boat traffic meant that they were pretty scarce. On top of that the number of idiots that either fished within 10m of us or hurtled through in 7m boats doing 15 knots made it very uncomfortable.
Anyhoo, when the reefs were covered by 1m or so of the incoming tide we stealthily crept around under electric power throwing R2S baby cranks into less than 50cm of water. Kyle nails a 30cm squire on his second cast and soon after gets his first ever trevally near the Platypus wreck. About 20mins later we have a double hook-up on trevs but both manage to throw the lures during the fight...
Soon after we hit the mangoves where Kyle manages a 28cm bream and a medium size dusky flathead in short succession. Finally I got on the board with an undersize bream and a very small dusky. The pike moved in soon after so we headed back out on the high tide to find the snapper.
Unfortunately the boat traffic was still bad so we threw it in after nailing a dozen or so undersize snaps on plastics and soft vibes, then cruised home in perfect conditions. A short wait at the Wello boat ramp which has finally had its renno finalised.
All in all a fun day on the bay. Sorry no pics!
