Labor, Greens in preference deal - more fishing restrictions

in my opinion, this article proves that a vote for labor is a vote against recreational fishing, more marine parks, tighter restrictions, and a lockout of all common sense in regards to our sport nationally.

Labor, Greens in preference deal - report

    http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news...-1225893732423

LABOR and the Greens are about to seal a comprehensive preference deal that would boost the ALP's chances of remaining in government while helping the Greens achieve the balance of power in the Senate, Fairfax reports.

Greens leader Bob Brown has indicated the deal is all but done, with sources saying it's more comprehensive than that for the last election.
Labor will get crucial Greens preferences for House of Representatives seats in all but a handful of electorates where Greens branches can choose otherwise, while Labor will direct Senate preferences towards the Greens.
Labor is trailing the Coalition on the primary vote by 39 per cent to 42 per cent, but holding a two-party preferred lead of 52 to 48, according to three polls.
The Greens have 13 per cent of the primary vote and Labor needs the overwhelming majority of preferences to survive. "We're really going to need them this time," a source told the Sydney Morning Herald.

the worry is they are getting closer to becoming a left/green coalition, which this basically already what it is. we know of julias 'socialist' (to put it mildly) past. add that to the greens agenda of banning fishing etc, i dont see any good coming from this 'unholy' alliance.

the greens will get their pound of flesh for helping gillard to a win. and it will be our sport that will be that flesh.

Never thought I'd see the day I didn't vote Federal Labour.
But that day is at hand and I will be voting Nationals. (I live in a country seat, and can't stand Abbot).
The 'greening' of Australia has gone too far in my opinion, the very least I can do is not vote for them.
Might be a bit of a shock for them, hopefully a wake-up, Gillard would be expecting a shoe-in I'm sure.
Say no to the Green dictatorship!
    Cheers.

Amazing how they manage to wrap this up as "news". The bastards have been in bed together for years. A vote for Labor in the Senate is a vote for Brown.

Shooters & Fishers Party will at least send a message.

    Mudrunner,

You make it sound like being a lesbian is something to be 'accused' of. What's the shame in it? You think people who are gay CHOOSE a life of being persecuted? I've got mates who are gay, and a family member who is a lesbian, and they are some of the most level headed people I've met. And yes, they love their fishing! I personally couldn't think of anything worse than kissing another bloke, but if people want to, that's their decision. Either way it lkeaves less competition for girls I reckon. Don't bring sexuality into the debate here. It's nothing more than an ad hominem attack, and it makes your argument null and void from the outset.

    Fair comment.

This election should not be about targeting one minority group or lifestyle choice.

It is a fact that however that the greens have become the party of the gay lobby, the vegans, the hippies, animal rights activists and a number of other marginalized minority groups within our community and all these seemingly strange bedfellows have come to terms with the collective power of having their own political voice. We still argue about catch and release Vs catch and eat …sigh!! Over the last 20 years these various minority groups, via the power of their collective political power have become mainstream and we have become the minority. It will never become more obvious than after this election with the Brown/Garret “nightmare team” holding the strings. The collective outdoors sector is about to get smashed. It does beg the question.

Are we as passionate about protecting our way of life as the Greens are about shutting it down?

    Sadly I think not!

Isn't the sort of locale that most Ausfishers would fish in a state government domain such that any alliance between the Greens and a federal government of whatever persuasion will have no effect on our angling territories?

I though that the federal government's responsibilities (and powers) did not start very close to shore.

So just what was the wink wink, nudge nudge deal done?? I always found it interesting the greens wouldnt back the ETS because it was not radical or fundamentalist enough for their liking...JUST WHAT ARE WE (ALL) IN FOR WHEN LABOUR WINS AGAIN!!!

The economy is a furphy, I don't think the 'politicised drama' over it is continuing now to fool the majority.

Depends whether that area is within the boundries of a proposed National Marine Park or not..................
I stand to be labelled paranoid but I can't help thinking 'thin edge of the wedge'-type thoughts...............

Re: Labor, Greens in preference deal - more fishing restrictions

From what I can gather, the ONLY way we're going to curtail the greens' reign is to summons an opposing party that has just as much/more weight behind it! Doesn't matter which party gets in, libs or lab, we're f%^ked either way until we can surmount some decent opposition! It's all about numbers, and right now the Greens outnumber fishos a thousand to one it seems. Not a rat's chance in hell EITHER party's going to listen to our rights until we even up those numbers. The question remains...how do we do it?!

    Anybody who is not scared $h!tless by what Labor are doing in order to retain power need to read this article;

I've never been overly fond of Labor but even I credited them with more integrity than this......

Maybe those in QLD should vote for this guy in the Senate and keep the greenie out.

It's certainly a thought, the gulf in representation now designer wide and getting wider.

No-one represents better than those who know non-representation/disaffection/etc (just look the anglers plight).

IMO it's the only way to pull those already in parliament, straight again.

How outside of fantasy can those who know nothing fuller in common with huge bank balances, cafe latte/tea party existence in Australia, actually formulate anything but a vague guess at the issues of the majority. Let alone represent same.

I give too much credit, most cannot see 7 years to what could be...with nothing more than simple action today.
