Good. Should be more of it. Australia is surrounded by mangroves. They're not endangered. He's a bigger fool than Blight and her cronies in the Environment department.
They allow destruction of what would have been a breeding ground for some marine life, all be it a small area but every little bit helps. I guess what the idiots at George St think is maybe it'll diminish fish stocks some more so they can blame the fishos once again and have reason to lock up even more open spaces.
If fisheries read our forum, let them take action against the government for destroying the mangroves as we would suffer the same if we were witnessed killing a tree or 2!!!

i can't cut down a tree on my property and look at this ,it is a bloody wrong just wrong this is part of the river that needs the natural growth to be left alone.

Doesn't help the waterway in the River at all and will allow less filtration to hit the Bay....

How does a Government guilty of a failed Healthy Waterways Scheme (spent over $20m thus far) then go and do this to increase the failure rates of the waterways? Stupidity........over what, a coffee view? It must be in the electorate of Mrs Bligh(t) and her hubby, maybe they drink coffee at Southbank.

Yeh absoloute joke, i was using my recent purchase on Saturday and went up Bulimba creek and noticed that certain private school has also cleared mangrove near new development , if money is available you can pretty much do what you like as i see it dont get in the way of big coorprates cause they will just pay someone to remove you !!!!!

No amount of mangroves growing on the side of the Brisbane river would have me eating the fish out of it.
All the storm water drains flow straight into the Brisbane river, all the crap from the streets gets washed straight into the river when it rains.
Former mayor Jim Soorley said they have gone from one extreme to the other with mangroves growing along the river, and I agree with him.
Forty years ago there were next to none now they are everywhere and so are the sandfiles, mosquitos amd midges that go with them.
They can chop them all down for all I care, we would be doing the fish a favour by not giving them the opportunity of breeding in the Brisbane river.
There is a place for everything and the centre of Brisbane is not the place for mangroves.

Seahunt i can not help but comment on such a neglectfull response to what is a important part of the eco system in the the city.
And the centre of Brisbane is the place for mangroves has been ever since the river has been there!!!
