Crazy stuff!
Heard about this one folks?
Is there no stopping the arrogance of these zealots?
No bait fishing from Brooms' south to the Hat, and out to the shelf, all inclusive, is the call.
With tourism being a major, if not the major $ earner within this region, sounds like the death knell for a lot of businesses if not towns.....
Let alone the commercial fishers operating out of all the rivers within this area.....
Anyone who visits and fishes let alone lives and fishes within this region, time to get our ears on folks. Many of us have chosen to live here because of the fishing, now the latte set want to dictate to us how to live our lives......... time to put a stop to these dictators!
Have no details of how to respond to this proposal as yet, but I imagine there will be some publicity forthcoming, this was just a heads-up from the fishing column in the Coffs Coast Advocate.
Crazy stuff!
Yup, its a total joke, yet next to no fisho's want to stand up and make noise about. All the peak rep bodies are just a joke. All they seem to do is write a document to gov saying we dont like it, but wont do anymore and wont back it up with any convincing and supporting evidence. So get used to it, whilst the rec fishing community will do nothing to protect their rights to go fishing, you and the rest of us will lose what we currently have.
Should boycott the buggers, screw tourisim, they dont count for that many dollars as compared to someone who does a lot of fishing. Plenty of business infrastructure relies upon us fisho's.
We need a fisho in government not some freak who panders to the touristy pansies.
Thats my two bob...Peter
Sorry Peter, don't think I made my point clear.
Fishing-related tourism is relatively big bikkies within the prescribed region; many people come to places like South West Rocks, Nambucca Heads, Urunga, Coffs Harbour and Wooli just to name a few towns, with the main intent of wetting a line and hopefully catching a feed. Whatsmore, they've been doing it for generations!
It's our lifestyle that's at risk here, as well as the dollars brought into the local communities.
Cheers.
If it comes in, the way to really stuff them up would be to organize a protest week where people just fish the exclusion zones and run the fools in power off their feet. Maybe keep the vigilance up until they change the law?
Certainly looks like we are heading toward a dictatorship in good old Oz. The longer the Labor party are allowed to hold power in the majority of states, the worse it will become for anyone who enjoys the outdoors.
They are all just brainwashed fools IMO. Did anyone see the idiot on TT the other night talking about speed cameras? Even 1km over is speeding in his opinion. WTF?? They are all of the same thought-process....just make more rules to keep the people in line. Time to tie all ALP and Green supporters together and throw them off the rocks at Byron Bay.
Well 4x4 to be honest I'm a lifelong Labour voter in the Federal sense, but haven't voted for NSW Labour for over 20 years.
Never thought I would see the day when I would not vote for Federal Labor, but this has issue changed my thinking.
I come from the time when Labour was the working persons' party, but now it is just an apology for the green lunatic fringe. This has been the case in NSW for many years IMHO, it really pi%^es me off to see it spread to the federal body, but I dislike that green lunatic fringe with a passion and will be voting Nationals from now on unless this idiocy is removed from the table.
Will be really interesting to see what eventuates here with this proposal.
Cheers.
Sorry mate,
I should have clarified myself also.
I was looking at the other tourists at a different perspective, that is the non fishing type , my brother in law is one of them and he is pro business and pro development, he and I dont see eye to eye, never have, we always agree to disagree except when it comes to sport.
Cheers, Peter
Hahahaha, and you think the Liberal party would change, dream on 4x4. they all the same , all feathering their own nests and dont give two hoots except what they can get for themselves, always have always will.
I knew quite a few liberal party voters until it affected them,, personally and turned,
Lets face reality...Liberals is always for businesses and Labour is for working class ... thats how its been since Federation although the left and right on both parties have modified somewhat but fundamentally they have not changed
Greens are no better either
At the end of the day Liberal or Labor it doesn't matter. What ever party that screws our lifestyle over needs to be punished at the ballot or nothing will change. As soon as that happens and the repercussions of stealing our lifestyle just to satisfy a Zealot ideology become to great to bear then we will get what we want.
Until then I will vote for the party that has the best track record of THE most important issue affecting all Australians and that is Economic management. Labor has failed again and again and again. Talk about all the social programs you like and all the false economies that Keynesian style treasurers create all you like but at the end of the day if the country can't afford it they can't afford it. Better off giving the cash back to the people(or just steal less from them).
I can't see Labor achieving that ever so they will never get my vote. Working class party my ass. Maybe decades ago I don't know.
I can't wait for a party to offer a flat tax rate and a decent tax free threshold that party may get my vote for ever if it introduced that AND fair and transparent environmental management.
rant over

I'm not having a go at you but this is something I've noticed over the past 50 years.
Mate, I dont know if you know how the international monetry system and Fiscal Policy works nor do I but this much I do know, it takes many years to seed something and years for it to fuit and no Government has ever thought of future needs as they cannot thik beyond their term of office.
Keating for example..as in fuel tax, it was this moron who said lets introduce a tax to make cars running on super fuel to be 2 cents, 5 cents, 10 cents and 20 cents a litre more expensive than standard fuel and it will be spread over the years.
Ohhh change of Governent Liberals got in....did they change the tax back?
Nope...just goes to show....once a tax is in place like the people who voted in GST then no successive governments will remove the tax.
It's the case of whos turn is it over the barrel.
I think a lot of people have short memories, and todays news is tomorrows fish and chips.
Chinese Philosopher said "Man is a fool to be governed by Politics, but twice a fool for not becoming a politician"
Thats my spin, Peter
Have you tried to organise a protest? Yup, everyone says they will go, everyone puts their hand up then no one turns up. Its the same shit time and time again. The peak body in QLD supposedly has 45000 members, yet have they ever once held a protest? Have they once turned up to your local VMR? Have they once come down to your fishing club? Yet we pay them each year via our affilated clubs such as ANSA. I wonder where all that money goes. Then to top it off they take money from our PPV levey that is used to hold a conference that has acheived nothing. The whole lots a joke.
The first thing that needs to be done is sunfish and rec fish need to be dissolved and a real peak body established. Then a recruitment drive needs to be made to get real people who will actually do something for the rec fishing community. Lastly, every rec fisho needs to pull there finger out and start screaming as loud as the greens.
Until then, we are a minority and it does not matter which way you vote, because the politicians cant see you.
Oh, and before the zealots have a go at me, I AM NOT SPEAKING ON BEHALF OF ECOFISHERS. I have stepped down from my role at ecofishers because I am to busy with my business.. I am just telling it how it is.
Oh yeah, and if you want to see how pathetic the rec fishing community is just take a look at the petition in my signature. I have about 1000 signatures on paper, and 163 online. How many signatures do you reckon the greens would have by now if it were a petition to make all state and federal waters into green zones?
Libs were for business at one time and yep the ALP was for the worker. All that died back in the 80s IMO. I was heavy handed by the lovely boys from the MWU when I ran restaurants in the late 80s so have a hatred for the unions and all they stand for. The Greens are idiots and the Libs have abandoned the small business owner too. Voters are left with little alternative these days sadly.
Andy, I can't even organise a few days fishing so the protest is out
I have no ideas on how to get more to rallies either sorry.
Thats true what you said. I thought you would have been in a business of some description. All I know is that the forefathers had a great struggle during the industrial revolution to bring about better working conditions and safer environments in factories an heavy industries back in the early 60's and slwoly its been eroded away and seems like everyone wants to forego and trade their holidays in favour for the employer and extra cash.
I know I've worked hard and earned my holidays and breaks and be damned if I'm going to trade it in for an extra dollar. The yuppies and young generation of today have no idea what working life was like back in the 50's and 60's.
