    Biodegradable Plastics

Lucky Phill recently posted a thread showing a bream with a gut full of soft plastics http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/sho...d.php?t=166073. I posted a comment about biodegradable plastics and thought it would be an interesting follow-up for a survey.

Went with never thought about it.
I guess, like many others I just assumed they would be biodegradeable.
I do however, know thinking about it, have some ebay purchased tails and grubs that I know are 100% un-digestable plastic. Do we throw all those ones out?
With my record, I doubt, unless the knot comes undone any fish are going to be in danger.

Don't care if they are biodegradable or not. Hardly loose them to fish. I'm sure you'd find alot more bait hooks in fishes mouths than plastics.

Dont know about that Squid, most (all)? hooks rust out pretty quickly.
I have to say, I dont use a lot of plastics.. but I never thought about them and being biodegradable.. might have a special look at what I buy next time.

Livies are the best way to go for biodegradablness

    Re: Biodegradable Plastics

Personally I do not use any of the biodegradeable plastics (which are still a plastic that takes a long time to break down, just a bit quicker than other types) but opt for plastics like snapbacks that are extremely hard to damage meaning the fish do not swim off with chunks of plastics in thier gobs.
Sometimes i use squidgy fish and similar plastics, but mostly its the super-plastic breeds that you will find on my lines.
I also do not like the way any of the bio baits swim, they all swim like chunks of bacon no matter how much you fiddle with them.

    Re: Biodegradable Plastics

I will only buy biodegradeable soft plastics now.

Only buy lead free sinkers, looking for lead free jig heads too.

Would be happy to use biodegradable leader as well if I could get the rating i needes.

    Just my choice...

    Ditto.

Best lure for the fish that I am targetting at the time, especially since it is now so easy to just add scents to lures.

Whether the lure is biodegradable or not they all come in non biodegradable plastic packets. I am still yet to find one of these packets discarded and floating around like empty bait packets.

I cant count on one had the times i have picked up bait packets floating passed my boat when anchored.

I have also hooked a few sinkers swivel and trace attached so its not only soft plastics or hard bodies polluting.

Everythings biodegradable. Time scale is the issue. How long does it take for'biodegradable' plastics to break down?
