    Rod storage in shed

Looks like I may have to move the loomis's out to the shed now the kids are getting more active and inquisitive. Should I be worried about the summer heat in the shed causing any damage to the rods? Any ideas on how to store them? Thinking of building some sort of cupboard/rod locker or something.

    Vertically if possible.

Normal hot summer days temps (up to 40c) should not do any damage to your rods unless they are placed on horizontaL racks. All of my rods stand in my shed about 5 inches from the iron and suffer no problems. They have been there for about 6 yrs now.

As Tunaticer said, vertical is the best way to store them. If you must store them horizontally (especially to keep em out of reach of inquisitive little fingers). then make sure they are supported at a minimum of three points along the rod - and dont store them with the reels on. For those of you that do store your rods with reels on - DON'T leave them rigged up with tension on the line....this is a sure way in hot weather to put a permanent bend in the rod.

Is it only in combination with heat that storing horizontally will result in curving a rod?

Time will also have this effect...though heat in the short term is the main offender.

Either that or teach the kids not to go near them just like they shouldn't be near the back of the car or near the saucepan on the stove or near the sharp scissors and knives.
Kids are pretty quick at picking things up.
Just look at how long it takes to learn how to play a new game on the phone or x-box or what-ever it is kids play now.
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good

I had the exact problem with my 2 year old son. I needed something that i could store my rods away. I didnt like the idea of storing them in the shed... so i made a rod cabinet that hold 10 rods and its fixed onto the wall in the laundry with my tackle box. Nice and neat and away from the little fella curious hands. hope this helps.

Do you live anywhere really hot ? Im in Townsville, I have a wooden vertial rod rack. Its in my garage, never had any dramas. (Garage is part of the house so it doesnt really get much hotter than the house)
