    Which spinning reel for Spannos

Looking to purchase a spinning reel to use for floating pillies targeting spanish macks. Line would be 15kg mono.

Only want to spend around $200-$300.

Also, looking for recommendation for quality mono that does not unload off spool when in freespool.

    Gday,
Gotta be the Shimano Baitrunner D series in 6000,8000 or 12000 depending on how much line capacity and how heavy or light a reel you want.

Even the little 6000 pulls 9kg drag which is fine with the drag screwed up tight on 15kg.

Me i would go for the 12000 for the extra line capacity.

    Cheers,

Shimano 8000D is ideal for spannos. Sold to go primarily with 20-30lb braid, the 8000D should also spool well with 15lb mono.
Have a look at a) The Shimano website http://www.shimanofish.com.au/publis...trunner_D.html
and secondly google up 'Shimano 8000d videos' and you will see a whole range of relevant videos catching spannos, sailfish etc as well as a run down on its basics. Cost is around $240-$250 but Tackle Warehouse had a 20% discount on them a month ago and may offer you a discount if you call them.
    Cheers

Yep, Shimano baitrunner in the larger size would be the go as stated by the lads above.
I have the largest model in the Shimano Thunnus spooled with 25lb mono for my "Floaters" for Spanish Mackerel fishing. Hunt one down for a good price and you will be very happy with it too !

    Craigie.

I would recommend the baitrunner as well. I use my 4500B for floaters. Have caught some good size macks and other fish on it. The 4500B is probably about the same size as the new 8000D? I like the smaller model mostly as it is a bit more versatile, but if you only fish the deep, then maybe you are better off with the 12000.

I use the Okuma Epix Pro 60, not a flash reel but it's pulled in many (30odd) Macs between 10-20kg with no dramas, I've got it spooled with 50lb braid and have no dramas casting. I went for that reel for the 6.3:1 ratio, I can use it to cast slugs if we come across a school busting up. From memory it was only $170 odd at the time. Hope that helps.

I'm using a Okuma Epix 80 for spinning slugs and poppers Darren works a treat and is still around the $180 up there at red hill and is a 6.1 ratio
Most importantly one factor i find is the handle you hav to be comfortable with. I think the Okuma V Series model has a great handle > The Tuff Tackle Diablo Sniper 9000 i have has a great handle for spinning but is in a 4.8 ratio .
Okuma be the way to go thou The new Salina 11 10000 would be suited mate as well and is here localley .

There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot

I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges

Up here we Use Hussar as baits for real RED FISHS (SHSIIFDER)
