    Willy Weather V Seabreeze

    Hi All,

I have been trying to work out if it would be a good day to head out to the reef this friday probably from Lucinda to Britomart maybe.

Willy Weather suggests that it will be 4 knots and seabreeze suggests 15 knots.

Does anyone have any idea is one is more reliable than the other or is it just pot luck.

15 knots and 1.1 meter seas (seabreeze) can I still get out in that weather or will it be less than pleasant.

    6.9M quinnie offshore 225 yam.

Help and opinions appreciated but pleade keep then weather related.

    Cheers Eamon

    I prefer Willy's myself.
I don't have a boat but do check wind direction
and seabreeze don't always work out right here.
    I am in adelaide.

6.9 quinnie offshore should be able to easy mix it in 15 knot winds, i have a 4.4 fibreglass kellercraft with a 50 yam that i take out on moreton in 15 knot winds and she handles it fine. However, no more than 15 knots though is definately the rule for me! Also lots of white tips on the tops of the waves is a fair indication it wont be pleasant but dont worry about the odd 1 here and there

This q has been up before but you can only split the diff and hope for the best , I looked at both last night and this morn, and couldn't make heads or tails of it so took the pushy for a ride to the beach and saw it was low swell and nearly glassed off and gave it the thumbs up to go out. . . for how long?

headed out of the seaway and all was good except couldn't find any fish then found a spot that had a good show but they wouldn't bite, then the wind started to pic up just as we found what looked likely and they must'ave just started to feel like a feed, so we got a feed it just made for a slower trip home ( 45 kph going out and 15-20 on the way in) got back in near 2;00 pm so got a full day, got 1 squire , 3 tragjew and 1 cuttlefish? weird things ! got wet but not inked.

Thats all I can say, Cheers

It would be good to know where they got their information from for the long range forecast. The observation have only one source.

I look at both plus the BOM, then work out the average. This is still not 100 percent accurate.

Since I saw this post I looked up Willy weather and noticed just how different it is to seabreeze. It looks way out and I cannot see how it will be that calm here for the rest of this week. It's already changed from the last 2 days as it was saying it would already be calm. It's early days but it's proving to be quite inaccurate.

    Re: Willy Weather V Seabreeze

I was camping at Lucinda all last week and the weather wasn't all that great. We were confined to the channel on Sun, Mon and Tue. Wed arvo we ventured out to the end of the sugar jetty and scored a couple of nice school mackerel, but it still wasn't all that comfortable. Thursday, due to one thing or another, we didn't get out although the weather looked very promising. The wind had dropped right off but a couple of blokes in the smaller tinnies who had ventured to the end of the jetty on Wed got half way out on Thursday and gave up as it was still so sloppy. There were a few larger boats heading out to sea pounding along at a great rate of knots intent on going to the reef - one of these, a 620 centre cab Trailcraft turned around as it was so rough. Friday saw the wind pick up again and the chop along with it. Didn't fish at all that day as my daughter fell out of a tree and snapped her left arm - emergency trip to Townsville for some surgery and some wires to put it all back in the right place.
    Cheers

Can always cross reference with current obs...see what the baro pressure is tending towards

    Re: Willy Weather V Seabreeze

It was really odd as Willy weather seemed to eventually show similar to seabreeze on the day in question with totally calm weather from then on.

Will start to look more at BOM and try to get a better understanding of pressure etc.

    Re: Willy Weather V Seabreeze

Yes willy weather seems to show really calm weather a few days out all the time, at least since I've been looking at it.

I use seabreeze and the BOM 4 day chart. Works well for me up this way.

    Re: Willy Weather V Seabreeze

It's got me confused aswell. We are planning on going out from Airlie this weekend, Willy says 6knots, Bom 15-20!!!! I hope Willy is right, but as said earlier we will just see what eventuates.
