My new boat is around 2.5 tonne and has a mackay aluminium trailer with keel rollers and skids.
I was very dubious about not having full multi-roller but after launching and retreiving with the outer skids I'm very happy with the skids.
The obvious advantage is weight saving with no outer roller sets. At 3200kg on the trailer need every kg I can get...
The mackay ally trailer is nice bit of gear but expensive. Runs hydrastar electric brakes.

G'day Champion,
Have a peek at http://www.mackaytrailers.com/
Click on aluminium section and some good pics there. There is also a good read about ally on the bottom right of the ally page .... click on links.
Mine is the same one as you see in the pics, has black carpet on skids.
I was told to use a spray of armoral on the carpet (by a boat dealer staff person not mackay) to make it easier but the boat came off the trailer with a flick of the throttle. It went on beautifully with the missus guiding me up to the winch post support.
I talked to mackay about setup for the skids and their tech guy said the main support for the whittley on that trailer comes from the keel rollers. As such you only need the skids just touching the hull for rocking support NOT supporting a huge about of weight on them.
This is my first ally trailer and love the improved corrosion resistance already... thats for sure!
My mate has a big mackay as well. It has full rollers and i must say we put his big boat on and off pretty easy as well.
