    Re: boat trailers

    Hi Champs,
I'm going thru the same process. I think an aluminum trailer is the go. I had a look at a Dunbier yesterdsy and was pretty impressed. I emailed a crowd at Maroochydore and waiting till Monday to hear from them. There is another mob at Maroochydore called Tubeseek Ph 0413464376 whom I will call on Monday. I think alloy is the go as the steel trailer will give problems in years to come.

Depends on your $$$ ...Brejen is building a new steel trailer for the 7m Viper platey ...but it is mostly bolt together so if in years to come there is some problem , then it can be pulled apart and just have to replace the crook part ...

    Try Peterson Trailers www.petersontrailers.com.au or 0402 432 338

Aluminium trailer that is probably best value in oz and the guys really stand behind the product.

The electric actuator is almost maintenance free, get a Hydrastar or a Dexter 1600psi and you won't have any problems.
If you want low maintenance on the brakes them selves get S/Steel calipers, rotors, brackets and braided lines , the only thing you will do is change the pads , use ceramic pads .
If want to pay extra $$$ get an alloy trailer with duratorque suspension ( no springs ) again very little maintenance .

They are made in USA , some importres are importing the parts here and assemble them here, mostly bunks but you can get rollers if you want . Expect to pay around $14k for none S/S brakes and extra $1200-1500 =for one with S/S brakes.

I'm just ordering a new trailer mine is only 7 years old and rusting badly even though I wash it down after every trip. this time I'm buying a Belco made on a totally C channel section so it dries out. With the box section no matter how hard you try they rust inside the box sections of the trailer. With elec brakes about $9500 for a 6.3m trailer

    Re: boat trailers

    Hey,

Another vote for Portsea Marine and Petersen trailers.

I've owned one and it was a good trailer.

Steve, tell us about the matting you've got on the small trailer? What is it and does it work? Can we get it here?

    Re: boat trailers

    gday darren,
the bunk is a ally box section with an angled top "T" profile extruded into it. I have never seen an extrusion like this is Aus.
It is topped with a hard black plastic that the boat seems to slide very easily on. I have also not seen this in Aus. I am very happy with it. Hopefully the pics explain clearly.

    Hey Steve,

Nice. I take it you've counter fitted it onto the big boat too from the pics? Let us know how easy it is to launch and retrieve Bluebella.

    Re: boat trailers

we have done some research and found that we might go with rollers rather than skids.

has anyone got experience with either they want to share ?

    thanks

    Re: boat trailers

Thanks Guys for the Kind words on our PETERSON TRAILERS, we put alot ofcare into each trailer.

Darren the Ally bunks are an option that we are offering on our trailers up to 26 ft. So far the feed back has been possitive on the ally, but some customers still prefer the standard carpet bunk.
