Thread: i got the biggest snap g/c charter

Re: i got the biggest snap g/c charter

We’ve all had a bad days fishing, but we tend to avoid discussing the bad ones only brag about the go ones. It’s easy to blame the charter operator but these guys aren’t always in control.

On Saturday I left the Seaway at around 4.30am with my brother spent a little time at the 24’s and later decided to go to the 36’s which was a mistake the weather out wide was absolutely horrendous true to the forecast. So I returned back to the 24’s and saw the 2 Charter boats actively working the grounds. Other than one boat returning from the 36’s making a bee line home which I recon was “timfishin4fun” while I was heading to the 36’s, I didn’t see another boat outside all day except the Charter boats on the 24’s. In a way you’re lucky to get out on the water that day.

I don’t understand the big cry yes if the operator was rude to your boy fair enough every dad is defensive but because they left 15min’s late and you didn’t catch fish! Mate it’s the Gold Coast 24’s what did you expect a Cairns offshore fishing adventure. The weather was far from perfect wind going one way current the other lines will get tangled.

It’s been a tough year for most small businesses, don’t make it any harder for them by defaming them when they cannot defend themselves on a public forum, I’m sure they have had some good trips as well. Just remember more than likely the charter operator has expenses and a family to feed too.

    HeadTuna;
You are right of course and we shouldn't decry or defame those who make a real effort to give their clients a good day out. The issue with this, and some other GC charters, is that they didn't and some never will live up to the clients expectations (however high or low they might be).

Another way to identify the 'better charterers' is to go into the local tackle shops and ask them for advice. BCF and Doug Burts Fishing Tackle World, can and will give you their view based on who is catching what and where. They know the good charter operators names and will avoid giving you the bad ones.
    Cheers

Sorry rosco Friday was a much better day, we did pick-up a decent mixed bag from the 24's. I just don't like to see any business get bagged out on forums no disrespect to you.

A fishing charter that can't catch fish, fair enough....

Been a few times on charters out of the Gold Coast - quite simple, too expensive for no fish !! Great for the Tourist to go for a boat ride and maybe catch a fish.
If you are a person who fishes offshore regularly then don't go anywhere near the place. Take the time to plan a charter with one of the Company's more to the north that fishes the Coral reefs. Much more rewarding !!
Sorry to the Gold Coast Charter Fleet, have not had a worth while experience in your area. I'm not one of these goons who expects to catch $250 worth of fish for his $250 day trip but I would hope I'm a chance of catching a feed or a trophy fish !! Have also been on mixed charters with other groups who all get in and take your fish at the end of the trip when they caught squat ! Don't get me started.............................

p.s I feel better now I've had my rave......................

Re: i got the biggest snap g/c charter

Hi all, sorry to hear you had a bad day of it Rosco, really bad when someone picks on a kid fishing, we should be trying to encourage them to enjoy our fabulous past time not discourage them.
I have been out with Fish the Deep on a number of occasions and cannot recommend them highly enough. Matt is one of the best skippers i have come across on the Coast and I've been using charters down here on and off over past 15 years, he works his butt off to get you onto fish, not always massive amounts but usually a few keepers every time I have been out.
Uses good gear and not crappy old bait either.
Give them a go if you ever get the chance, not the cheapest but I honestly believe that with charters in this neck of the woods you do get what you pay for.

Did you mean to say "Sounds like the trip was worse than your grammar!" ?

Nothing like taking the piss out of someone for poor grammar and then making a meal of it yourself!

BTW wags, I know what you mean regarding poor quality charter operators. I have been on a couple out of the GC..... Fish the Deep as previously mentioned was a good one..... a couple of others not so good.......

We went on a charter a few years ago down the coast, I cant remember the name of it but, it was a 7 or 8m cougar cat and the oldish captain would only take 4 or 5 people max. We fished quite a few different spots untill we found the fish which was great, but towards the end of the day when the fishing had slowed down we were still out the back when we heard the unmistakable sounds of a porno being played inside the cabin and the captain yelling out to us to come check it out because it was a really good bit. Need less to say it was pretty much the end of the fishing as it was too hard to concentrate on the fish with that playing inthe background. Was a great day out which we all still talk about but not a very family orientated trip.
    Cheers Marto
    ps. sorry aboout the grammar
