2 seems to do the same job as 4?
Hi All,
I just went through and made a list of my rods and reels for insurance purposes.
One thing I found is that I have a bunch of 'similar' rods (OK, four) . They are, however, all slightly different. So, I'm asking what YOU would do with the combos 1-4 in the sense of target species/lure type etc.
Also, would you swap around any of reels on any of the rods?
The short list for this thread is:
1. Berkley Dropshot Series 7'6" 4-8kg Inshor Spin with Daiwa Heartland XA 3000 (absolutely fave combo for SPs in the bay)
2. Daiwa Exceler 7' Heavy 12-20lb 3/8-1oz lure with Shimano Stradic 4000FI (carried on the boat for throwing Raiders and Maniacs)
3. Daiwa Tierra 701 Med light 4-12lb line, 1/8-1/2oz lure with Daiwa Sol 3000 (?)
4. Avaya Bionic Elite 7' Medium 5-8kg 10-40g lure with Daiwa Regal ZA2500 (?)
5. Strudwick Sofbodz 7' 1-3kg with Daiwa Exceler Plus 2000 (light SP combo)
6. Shimano raider II 7-6" 2-4kg 3-12g lure with Okuma Hardstone 30 (backup light SP combo, often kept in the car)
7. Berkley Dropshot Tournament Pro 6'6" 8-10kg (Jerk-n-Jig) with Shimano Baitrunner 6000D (Bait rod)
8. Berkley Diablo 6' 6-10kg with Daiwa Liberty 4000 (Bait rod)
Basically it's combos 3 and 4 that I'm not sure what to do with as neither have seen the light of day in many many months. I'm predominantly out at Green or Harry's (unsuccessfully) chasing Snapper and Sweetlip on bait and lures. Was thinking that the Tierra/Sol would make a nice Flathead combo? Not sure what to do with combo #4, it was bought as a Snapper plastics combo, but that's taken by the Dropshot/heartland.
What would YOU do with this collection of rods and reels?
Cheers!

That's pretty much it. The Tierra/Sol could become a Flathead combo (although I haven't chased flatties in over a year, and always used 2-4kg combos for that)... and maybe estuary poppers?
I'm guessing the Avaya will be relegated to 'spare' status, and maybe used for deckies without their own decent gear, relatively speaking..... last time I used it, it was as a bait combo which doesn't quite do it justice, nor does it do as well as my other 'bait' combos....
