    Mixed bag Wed 30/6

Was rostered off for a few days and seeing a blow coming this weekend thought I should get in early. Fishing was slow throughout the day and had to move around a fair bit to russle up a feed. Last time I caught a monster cuttlefish I let him go after looking into his eye, and after hearing how good they go on the barby I did my best not to look at him this time - in the bin he goes... Squire weren't real big and lots of throwbacks along the way. I know alot of blokes on ausfish catch huge pearlies but this one was my PB at 57 cm, dont normally bump into many.

    All up:
    5 squire
    1 pearlie
    1 hussar
    1 pigfish
    1 trag
    1 cuttlefish

Gees check out the size of the cuttlefish, it's a stonker!

I'd be keen to know how he was on the chew at that size?

Lovely pearlie as well....would have been a great day on the water

There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot

I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges

Up here we Use Hussar as baits for real RED FISHS (SHSIIFDER)

Hey Lee, the cuttley was caught as by catch looking for snapper. On a big pilly off the bottom.

Gaven, it actually cooked and tasted quite alright. I had my reservations due to his size but crumbed and deep fried 90 seconds was beautiful. Cleaning him and peeling his skin took a while though.

Know what you mean about their eyes Schuey, intelligent looking critters aren't they! Winter always brings the big cuttles in down here at Coffs, last Thurs while fishing inshore scooped up a headless corpse nearly 60cms long, head bitten clean off and head end of cuttle snapped as well. Often wonder what does this, I've always believed the toothed whales eat them on their journey north as they are always present at the same time, but could also be the whites that follow along. Some of the beached dry cuttles have large teeth marks in them, any ideas?
    Cheers.

Yeah that's the go Luke, they dont taste too bad at all if prepped and cooked properly.

Nigel - i'd be guessing that it's sharks having a good old chew, maybe even large turtles aswell if you get a few down there.
