taking my two boys fishing this weekend at ballina.any good land based areas especially to try and catch flatties.usually try the rock wall near the vmr ,have caught some bream there,want to try plastics.regards john

Up river of the sailing club there is a little inlet, on the edge of town, fish there on an incoming tide for flathead

Used to fish nights at the seafood co-op jetty in Ballina back in 91. I have no idea if it still exists but if it is, give it a try as it was always productive.
Just checked Google and I can't seem to find it as it was. There is a jetty/pontoon area further towards the mouth at Fawcet St, check it out, hope it helps.
