Garmin 140 outstanding simple sounder 5" screen B&W with pretty good resolution for basic screens. Can be fine tuned easily and they work a treat for under $200. Got one on my yak and its great. Had one in the sons boat and it was faultless. Do not upgrade to the 160c version tho res is awful.

Jack.
black and white or colour??
cheers Lee
If you're using the word simple, I would stay with Black and White.
You enter colour, you generally enter $$
"There is certainly something in fishing that tends to produce a gentleness of spirit, a pure serenity of mind."
Go the Garmin F140 as mentioned. I have had many Lowrances in my time and I have switched to Garmin including the one mentioned and it is the best sunder for the $ spent. Unless you are willing to spend $500 + on a colour sounder you wn't be getting any of the features that colour sounder offer
Greg,
I got a 12mth old Lowrance X135 off eBay for $300 an it's been a revelation.
The old Furuno LS4100 I got with the boat had great wraps on paper but never lived up to any of it - despite numerous excellent pieces of advice from Ausfish members and one Furuno rep.
The 'new' unit is fantastic, for a 5" mono - shows great definition etc...
Hope you find what you're looking for mate.
Cheers,
Steve
