Hi all,
wondering if somebody can point me in the right direction once again. I'm in the market for a new sounder for the bar crusher. Would love something that picked up the whiting clearly on the bottom. Don't really want to give my money to Lowrance again but there is a big price difference between the Lowrance hds5 and the Furuno 620. Any thoughts????
Cheers Ryan.
Almost any sounder will show whiting fairly clearly if you tune it to show most returns and use whiteline. Straight from the box, standard settings are pretty lousy and you need to increase the sensitivity until the screen is cluttered then back it off a tad (similar to the squelch adjustment on 2 way radios) then turn all fish symbols off and turn whiteline on to separate bottom from fish. My X52 used to show them clearly and my current Garmin 178c and Lowrance 525c both show them clearly. The Garmin 140 probably shows them best of all my sounders, but that is probably because it is mounted in my kayak and it gets zero interference from anything electrical or metallic.
