Heading out to the cockle banks tomorrow for the first time looking for a feed of whiting and the odd flathead. is there anything specific i need to know about this area also anyone been there lately thanks.

Yep - just yesterday (see my post from earlier today).
The quantities are enormous so just drift along with anything remotely resembling a worm and you'll bag out
Caught 3 sandy flatties too, but they were a a bit on the skinny side so threw them back.
I did try casting a live whiting once we moved from cockle banks back over to the Scarborough Reef but the poor fella was just getting a headful of reed each time I reeled him back in!
We did see a few schools of baitfish near the surface over the banks but they didn't appear to be getting chased by anything big. I did pull in a few whting through the middle of the schools that made them crap themselves for a bit until they realised the predator was in fact hooked!
