Snapper starting to show

Well had to go out with a couple of freinds and dad to try and find some of those snapper we couldn't find last week but by the reports they were starting to show. So headed out of Mooloolah river with about a hundred other boats saturday morning in nice conditions for the first part of the trip but got a bit sloppy with the showers but ok. I fished pastics most of the day and they seemed to account for most of the snapper. Photos of the first few drifts then the camera battery died. The day was patchy but the conditions kept getting better with good shows but the fish not to interested in playing. So we kept moving and picking up a few here and there but no real stand out fish with the best snapper about 4 to 5 kgs. Another nice day on the water with good company and a feed of fish as a bonus.

Hey Gaven i am new to the offshore game and fish plastics all week in shore for snapper so i got a few questions to ask. What depth were you fishing and what size jighead and leader as i am about to have a go off shore with my new plate console but i am wanting to learn about the size of the gear as i use light and hook good sized ones in 10 to 15 feet but its a new ball game off shore and would love to hear about the ideas of the boys doing it now. NIce FIsh there Gaven, Best size if the season I have seen. Where abouts out of Mooloolaba? North east or south? Heard another report from a mate of mine Caloundra Wide was getting some good ones

They were in good nick and most had skin rubbed of their knobs so i guess they are feeding hard on the bottom at the moment. I'm making the most of it at the moment we start getting busy at the nuseryfrom the end of july and the weather dosn't always work with when i can get away.

I tend to mostly use 20lb braid and about 6 metres of 15 to 30lb leader. I'm mostly fish 65-75metres 1.5-2oz jig heads on the drift and if at anchor 0.5-1oz depending on current. When conditions are real good i tend to go as light as possible and the same when fishing the close reefs but i still only come back to 12-15lb braid as you will pick up ambo's and cobia. Hope this helps a bit and i'm sure there are others on here that have more advice and have done more of it just keep on asking most are very helpfull.

great catch there mate, hoping to see some nice snapper in the closer reefs soon so i can get out and get stuck into them in my tinnie.
