    tyre costs?

have a problem with tyre ratings for my chev . They have 17inch rims instead of the old 16s and the load rating of the bfgs are harder to achieve on the 17s . I now have to go to 285/70/17 to achieve this in a bfg which cost about $ 450 each . I only get 35 - 40 k out of them so its a bit costly .(price of tyres seem to be rising rapidly over the years)
Question is , what are the alternatives? Or should i just harden up a bit

Tyres hurt the hip packet, mine anyway, never bought a tyre for the price you are looking at and never ever want to....just grin and bear it I suppose.

with hope you might find something in the $300s at least!

    Can you change rim sizes??
Either go down or up to achieve a more common tyre size.
The new rims would pay for themselves very quickly when tyres are $450 a pop.
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good

hercules - what load rating do you need? and what sizes are ok?
Bridgestone do a 275/65R17 in an LT and Mickey Thompson have a 285/70R17 LT rated at 121Q.

yeah the load is 121 /118 Q . Is the 118 speed ? or is it just the Q as it says a speed not less than Q .
I have some 285/70/17 BFG on back order already that meet the rating , how much for the mickey thompsons and how do they compare to bfgs in wear etc?

    Re: tyre costs?

I don't have personal experience with the MT's - I just know some guys on lcool (cruiser owners) rave about them. I suspect price is similar, perhaps a bit lower than the BFGs.

The 121 is the load, the Q is the speed.
