    Where the snapper are hiding

    Hey guys

Obviously with winter among us the snapper are starting to move in.
Just wanting to get the latest on the hot spots around brissy.
Alot of people have been saying that theres a few around scarborough reef
but i think that that place has been over fished for years.
    Any help?

    Cheers

Yeah Scarborough reef is as good as a gone, it has been absolutely flogged to death. There must have 40 boats out there this morning and that again in kayakers both on the reef and to the south around Shields st and nobody catching a thing.

Wellington point seems to get excellent numbers of squire but snapper reports from this area are thin.

I would be interested to know also if any others have some thoughts on wehre the bigger fish could be. Maybe the in close sunny coast reefs may be the go?

Re: Where the snapper are hiding

I have boated 3 good ones this winter so far and dropped another one, all in Moreton Bay .
And I am a crap fisherman because this is the first year in the last 5 years I have caught any at all.
So either I am getting better or there are more around this year.

    You are getting better.

Though I am optimistic that they will arrive in numbers pretty soon.

I was out at cockle banks and heard guys on the radio who said all they were catching is squire.

We did try the Scarborough Reef but we were only catching snags!

I am yet to land my first legal Snapper but my hopes are fading judging by these reports...Back to the bread & butter variety me thinks.

It is getting harder to find the bigger squires but there is still a few legal ones around the river if you know where to drop a line.

If you can get past the junior squires there is a few legal numbers down there.
I am not too sure of many other places as I can't go too far in my little tinny :-)

All caught near one of your old haunts Cheech, on soft plastics, best was 58 cm about 3 kgs.

I could be getting a bit better, but it is about time.
Those 3 fish probably only cost me about 2 grand each.
I am starting to feel a bit sick here at work, so I might go tomorrow morning and see if I can get another one.

Are you sure? i know it's easy to say and all but a few blokes i still talk fishing with from my years down SEQ, they report nothing much has actually changed regarding good years/bad years/seasonal timing and it's effects etc and all this from up to 27 years ago over offshore inshore and inside.

One thing for certain and the only thing I might add shown over 30 years of determined anti angler fishery's research is that fish in areas that see many boats and baits literally become too smart for the average anglers methods.

you bloody bewdy..I thought I was the only one that had not caught a legal snapper..and I doubt I ever will as I won't be fishing for them..except on the odd charter or two.

More fun and cheapar after the bread and butter speices..I had more fun on Friday night catching plenty of bream than belting around Mud or the bay in hope of one snapper..am over that well and truly.

There is a good point about having to out smart the fish onto your line.

    Cheers

Re: Where the snapper are hiding

Too right, no legal snapper left these days, don't bother folks. Oh yeah, and if you do get one, it wasn't skill, just luck anyway.

Re: Where the snapper are hiding

Here is the proof that skill plays no part and that there are no snapper left in the bay to catch.
