I don't really understand the question.
Should they have been given the money or are they just a bunch of scumbags.
They should not have won the money as the license was out of date.
A license was required and stated so in the rules.
Where/how does the scumbag come into play especially IF it was just an innocent mistake or oversight?
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good
No, they shouldn't win or get the $. Rules are rules - a bit of give, allows a dangerous precent that can be stretched further. What if someone hooks a potential winner that is 100m outside the 'allowed' zone or 1 min earlier than the allowed time. Set the rules, then stick to them.
I agree with finga though, they aren't scumbags, just not thorough in preparation. Bet they or anyone else who hears this story will make the same mistake again.
Steve
I totally agree with the fish being disqualified, rules are rules, if you let that one slide, where do you draw the line, how many times has someone got away with it but? I don't think there scumbags, well I don't know them, lol, but a good decision was made.
Yeh very unlucky!! You would think though if they are going in a comp with a potential for $1 Million prize money they would double check everything... !!
Fished a few comps up North and there are always hard luck stories...
Not scumbags at all, just poorly organised and researched imho...
Rules are rules. If they let them have the cash, surely the other boats would be entitled to protest?
I bet they won't forget the license again!
Cheers
Jim
What the hell do they mean "lie detector". Are they talking a pollygraph or are they just referring to a post fish interview??
As for should they get the dough? Depends how the rules are written and what is the way they are generally administered.
Wonder if he kept his job and bottom line the responsibility lies with the captain or the person lodging the entry form. Still doesn't exactly say how they were found out.
I have been in comps before ( not fishing) and you have had to sign off a copy of the rules before prize giving and tick each line of rules as you read em as you are out on your own.
Rules are there for a very good reason. And no correspondence should be entered into.
Just bad luck for them today with a small oversight.
Cheers
Chris
Rules are rules
They cannot allow it to be payed to them, and this is the reason why !!!
Simply put
The bloke that now came second will sue for A first place claim on an invalid entry and win the case, all they are doing is holding up the inevitable and trying to dupe the real winner out of his $1million earnings
Very unlucky but must accept the outcome
SCUM BAGS MAYBE!!
bloody hell thats some coin. Any comps in Queensland with a first prize of 1 mill? Might have to get serious about fishing
I like the sounds of those lie detectors. It might stop a few fishos from weighing in lake fish in the Bream and Whiting categories in local comps. Now they are the real scumbags

The unlicensed guy was not the fisher but the deckhand......why would everyone on board need to be licenced to fish if they do not participate in the fishing?
Rules is rules and the fish and the team disqualified, that part i agree with.
Jack.
i raised the issue of them being scumbags as they tried to sweep the part of not being in complience with the rules under the rug.
after they were found out, a week later, the one bloke is quoted as saying " we're honorable men. it's not about the money, it's about our reputation". if that were the case, they' have come clean the moment they got off the boat.
had they informed the judges the moment they got off the boat, i'd have some sympathy for them.
and yes, they do administer polygraph tests in fishing derbies of most anything larger than an informal pub contest here in the states.
i read the article a couple of times, and the more i thought about it, the more i think they're, well, scumbags.
i guess a million dollars can make even an "honorable" man a bit confused for a spell.
