Stella 2500FD vs Certate 2500R vs Sustain 2500FE

Hi Everyone,

I know that similar questions have been asked before, But here it goes again, looking at upgrading my reel chasing mainly squire/snapper on soft plastics (but will be tormented by longtails occasionally), matching up to a Loomis DSR820, have been looking at the Sustains ($300), have always been a shimano man, but have been recently leaning towards a Certate 2500R (2010) ($500), But if I spend $500 do I just spend the extra $125 and get a Stella?
I have heard a couple of bad reports about the new Certates wearing the handle bearings and gears out (apparently the new Sols have a similar problem). Thanks in advance for your time and comments.

If you can get a 3000/ 4000 size Stella for $625 - Grab it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a fan of the Certates because the are robust with a good drag ....... not necessarily a smooth real .......... way better than the sustain
A stella is a class above - more refined and smooth as ........ but they are normally around $850 locally.

The new Certates haven't been out for very long ......a few months at best - I would be surprised if it was the case that bearings & gears would be worn out ........ specially gears

Keep in mind that a 2500 Stella & Sustain is a smaller reel than a 2500 Certate - A 2500 Daiwa is around the same size as a 3000 Shimano.

If your looking at a stella, why not look at a Daiwa Branzino 3000. They are a very refined reel with lots of power to go with it. There are a few on ebay atm at a good rate.

I recently had the same delima and went to the 3000 Stella. It is the same reel as the 2500 Stella with a deeper spool weighing the same. I have been an upmarket Daiwa man for many years, the FD stella range is a class on it's own with an ultra smooth drag. Most of my Certates have suffered the same fate with constant replacement of the bearing on the line roller dispute regular maintenance and servicing. Parts are also difficult to obtain from Daiwa; their service division needs a good overhaul it's self. At present i have a 2500R in pieces waiting for a new main shaft, it has been in pieces now for 3 months waiting for parts so i just purchased a Stella instead and will sell the Certate when repaired.

I have a stella 2500 fd. what i did find was that the line capacity ( diameter/ metres ) was a little incorrect by about 20% if i wound it on myself under tension. However if you get the tackle shop to put it on with their machine, you get pretty much what is stated on the spool. The same for my saltiga 3500.
Apparently the figures shown are machine filled data. Critical on small spools and not so on the larger ones.
Apart from that, what a brilliant little reel with 6lb suffix braid

I have both a Stella 5000, and a Certate 3500HD
And Would choose the Stella over the certate all the time
I know they were not the sizes you were looking at ,But The stella are in a class of there own
