Dugong's Healthy - but...

I left my comments too. I have read work on this recently, trying to remember where.

They've done the work on dead dugongs, and from memory (early 2009?) there were 4 found since 2004 that had signs of boat strike, only one of those from a prop smaller than 400mm in diameter. They were unsure whether the strike was the cause of death or that the dugong was already dead.

My experience is that if you are moving at speed, they are long gone by the time you get there. These awful liars just steam my potatoes.

I get that sometimes too. Doubted I could find anything printable to say so haven't bothered yet.
It'll be filled with heaps of 'hate mail' for boaties no doubt. By now the ground swell against boating people will be well under way.

Whenever there's a news item in the Courier Mail or any other paper that's paints anglers or boaters in a bad light we should be flooding it with comments pointing out any lies or hidden agendas. There's always a comments section below the article on the web site. As long as you're sensible and not abusive it will be printed, it's just about the only way we can counter any misinformation or propaganga (usually green agenda) they are pushing onto the public. Letters or emails to the Editor are ok but they'll usually only print one for and one against their story in the next edition so the web comments section is a better option to show a lot of people don't agree with the journalist. Also it's important to put your comments there the day the story comes out, and the earlier the better. It will get 95% of it's hits (reads) the day the story comes out and bugger all after that. We don't all read the papers in the morning so we should have some way of alerting all Ausfishers and Ecofishers as soon as something unhelpful to our interests comes out in print. That's exactly what other organised groups like Greens, animal libbers, anti abortion, pro choice ect ect do.

Doesn't help at all but water taxi's are exempt from the go slow zones - so the Government have only themselves to blame for this death. Wonder if Sea World's resident "king of the stretched truth" is taking this up with them?? I doubt it.

Bit of an oxymoron isn't it? How can a dead dugong be healthy?? Oh ... I see, they mean to say other than the obvious wounds suggesting a boat strike, the animal would otherwise seem to be OK physically ...... While Uni Of Qld send divers in to crash tackle swimming Dugongs which are dying of "Unknown" causes. More info required!
