    Can I do a 2" body lift?

I have a 07 Rodeo 4x4 3.0TD and have given it a 2" suspension lift but was wondering if a body lift was available. At the time I was told there was a problem with the airbags or something.

I am seriously after a new winch bar for the front and am thinking that if I have to lose the airbags then that would be a price worth paying for the extra height gain.

Gday mate. You can do a body lift on almost any 4x4 apart from jeeps or other type 4x4's. A 2" body lift is legal but you have to get approved body lift blocks. Doesnt really mean anything though. Ive used alloy and poly blocks before in the past. Infact I have 8 bodylift blocks laying around (i think) which your welcome to have if you want them. There will be alot of guys on here tell you about legality's of dissabling the air bags, but Im sure you are already aware of them and dont particularly care. Remove a fuse and they are dissabled.

To do the body lift yourself you will need to unbolt the cab from the chassi and losen your steering etc etc. fabricate drop down brackets for your radiator, lengthen your fuel spout if its cab mounted and slowly jack it up and see whats tight and whats not. But note you WILL have to modify and fabricate your bullbar when its lifted to suite. Hope this helps

Another thing to look out for is make sure low range or gear stick doesnt fowl or hit your shaft openning... And that you have enough bite for your steering shaft. Each 4x4 is different and thus why you have to jack 1 side up at a time slowly and check whats tight and address it 1 at a time.

I just finished lifting my 04 Hilux with a 2" body lift.
Bought the blocks and 8' high tensile bolts from ebay.

Had to cut and weld the range selector. Needed to extend the fuel hoses.
Steering was fine. Most difficult thing was cutting and re-welding the bull bar. (it attached to body and chassis.

The actually lift we did in a couple of hours. its the little things that take the time and are fiddley.

If you get stuck send me aPM.

There's no front airbag sensors on an RA so you should be right.
To do it properly, first make application to DOT (there's a form online for minor mods). They'll reply and say it's O.K. Then you'll go ahead.

They RA's need a steering extension which you can buy from thw 4wd shops online.

As others have said, if it's manual the body around the gearstick will require a massage. Loosen the fuel filler prior to lifting and you may get away with it. Remove the radiator shrouds to enable the lift, then move radiator to suitand refit the shrouds. If it's diesel and tmic then the cooler will have to be moved to fit the bonnet again - more fab work.

There's more but I can't remember just at the moment.

Edit: If you are using poly blocks, QDOT will ask if you have crush tubes installed - note: they aren't about to pull them out to check though......

A number of things. Electronics, Wheel arches (bigger tyres), Snorkle or air box, cab ride height, for looks (all up 4" lift). All while keeping the centre of gravity low, and drive angles close to standard.

    Thanks Ben. Very much appreciated.
    All sounds feasible but electronics??
How much electronics goes into a 4wd to have to lift the body?
That sounds a bit like my houses. I have to lift them to fit more crap under them.

And cab ride height...what does that mean??

Cab ride height means you feel higher when your driving it. Can see over other cars etc. And yes ELECTRONICS. Batteries, wirring, sensors, computer in kick panels etc. 50mm doesnt sound like much but it all helps when combined with other things and crossing rivers.

A few of my mates went upto the cape to make vids for explorer oz. They took a rodeo with them as 1 of their trucks. Fitted a front locker and suspension lift. Everytime they hit some deep water it went into LIMP MODE and wouldnt let it rev over 1500rpm (computer in the kick panel/sensor) maybe with a 50mm body lift it wouldnt have done it. Starter motor went on that thing in the first week of a 6 week trip.

Its a pitty they dont mount alternators and starter motors up high (maybe ontop of the engine) though. They are always the first thing to go. Im off to get another alternator for my cruiser right now.

Thanks to all the positive comments. I thought it was all too hard.
I just need someone to do it now. Preferably northside. Is anyone here able to do the job?

    Cheers

If you were up here, the basic lift (minus all the fiddley bits previously mentioned) would probably cost you a carton.
