what battery for minn kota electric motor

    hey

im going to get a marine battery for my electric motor and have it permanently fitted rather then having to always muck around setting it up. my question is what battery.

do i get a standard deep cell, a marine battery, or a deep cell marine battery

    any help is appreciated.

Can you give some info on the size/type boat, the size electric, what sort of fishing you doand where and what will run off the battery?
I am so happy to wake up in the morning.

    Beats the alternative!

hey, im using a 52lb thrust electric on a 4.25m allycraft, mainly just soft plastics around shallow reefs, bream around man made and natural structure and also some flathead fishing around the sand banks.

the battery will basically just run the electric motor. i have a second battery for all other electronics and starting the motor.

      thanks troy.

I've got a 100aH deep cycle running mine (same Minn Kota) and it does about 2 days of casting and running around with it, although it does slow a bit by the end of the second day if it's had heavy use.

You should go a deep cycle because of the constant draw down then recharging.. not sure what would be different about the marine deep cycle as most deep cycles already have thicker plates, etc..

As long as you are not thumping long ways out there and back in hard conditions a normal deep cycle battery is fine. If you are looking as a fairly harsh ride with the position of the battery and the conditions you will be travelling maybe a AGM deep cycle will be better.
I run two 120a plain deep cycles in my boat and get two full days of constant use from them easily. I do not make runs accross a choppy bay tho and I think that is why they have lasted over 8 yrs now.

Keep them regularly topped up is also a big key, pay the dollars for an intelligent charging system too.
          Jack.
