    casual day on the piney

had to entertain the father in law so took him to the mouth of the piney for some flathead fishing in the afternoon to fish the last half of the run out. hes a bit old school and wouldnt use soft plastics. he stuck with some mullet strips and i used gulps and berkely powerbaits.

i lost another nice fish when it spat the plastic (which strangely has been happening all too often lately) at the boat but still managed four keepers so it ended up being a half decent day.

conditions were a bit choppy with the southerly. water temp 15.6 degrees. not a bad day considering.

Nice work mate, considering the chop as well. Sweet feed.

normally i release them but old mate nearly had a heart attack when i suggested to do so, so we kept a couple this time.

just had some for brunch, tempura batter, deep fried with lemon wedges and salt and pepper. very nice.

    cheers.

So how did the bait go compared to the plastics? Did you end up converting him to the dark side?

    hey chips,

    bait - one flattie

sp's - three flatties. i tried to convert him but he was reluctant.

benny - yes im keen but other lost local bigins have kept me fisin around here cos its a bit easier and i think my trailer is on its last legs.

went again today and i couldnt get the boat/anchor to hold ground with the sea and current pushing me back towards the pylons. very windy and choppy today. my boat has high windage. got heaps of anchor chain so it was a bit surprising for that to happen. i took a non-fisher mate and got him onto a couple of small ones of which he was pretty stoked but yeah, getting a bit bored with the small ones.

Then reduce your line class in both main line and leader and see how light you can go. Chances are that this will be when a bigger fish jumps on anyway and then you will have some real fun.
