It had been a while since I last went fishing but yesterday the weather & work permitted (also the wife permitted). After my last visit the the Tiwi I was keen to hit it again with my father-in-law (Doug) - and was determined to get some fish for him & the mother-in-law
. A few drifts with no success but once again some really good shows on the sounder - I can't figure that place out yet. So headed over to Harries as there was about 2 hours of light left.....it was hard to drift between the boats and my apologies to the one boat I got a bit close to. Tried several different drift lines and landed plenty of undersize snapper, flathead & pike. I tried a different drift line and I just had a feeling that if I keep using the short drift line we'll get a legal fish for sure....3 drifts landed 3 snaps about 35cm (thrown back) and I was telling Doug make sure you hold onto your rod as the fish are coming on the bite now.....next drift and my Egrell S6 bends over and takes of - initially I thought I was snagged until a big head shake - I"M ON...drag was running, excitement building - told Doug to get the other rods out of the way - this was a big fish
...Doug got the net ready....a few more runs, head shakes....eventually I see colour and it's a big snap....Doug netted it beautifully and there was plenty of back slaps and big smiles.....
It went 75cm to the tail - caught on a Gulp 4 inch minnow in New Penny - tackle: Egrell S6, Certate 4000, 16lb braid, 12lb leader, 1/4 TT mustard jigead 1/0
A memorable day.....can't keep the smile of my face....![]()
