It had been a while since I last went fishing but yesterday the weather & work permitted (also the wife permitted ). After my last visit the the Tiwi I was keen to hit it again with my father-in-law (Doug) - and was determined to get some fish for him & the mother-in-law . A few drifts with no success but once again some really good shows on the sounder - I can't figure that place out yet. So headed over to Harries as there was about 2 hours of light left.....it was hard to drift between the boats and my apologies to the one boat I got a bit close to. Tried several different drift lines and landed plenty of undersize snapper, flathead & pike. I tried a different drift line and I just had a feeling that if I keep using the short drift line we'll get a legal fish for sure....3 drifts landed 3 snaps about 35cm (thrown back) and I was telling Doug make sure you hold onto your rod as the fish are coming on the bite now.....next drift and my Egrell S6 bends over and takes of - initially I thought I was snagged until a big head shake - I"M ON...drag was running, excitement building - told Doug to get the other rods out of the way - this was a big fish ...Doug got the net ready....a few more runs, head shakes....eventually I see colour and it's a big snap....Doug netted it beautifully and there was plenty of back slaps and big smiles.....
It went 75cm to the tail - caught on a Gulp 4 inch minnow in New Penny - tackle: Egrell S6, Certate 4000, 16lb braid, 12lb leader, 1/4 TT mustard jigead 1/0
A memorable day.....can't keep the smile of my face....

top effort..great looking fish
Your Mother in law will be happy
Persistance pays off in the end.
Great looking snapper mate.
Conditions look superb.
Cheers Brent.
Awesome work!
That Tiwi Pearl certainly is curious....
Were you drifting in the 'car park' when you caught that or fishing wider?
Yeah, I hate it when boats come too close to me, but it's Harry's. If you don't want any boats near you, you shouldn't be there.
My issue is not normally me drifting too close to other boats, but other boats anchoring up in the drift line that I've been using (particularly if I'm catching fish!).... That gets annoying!
Did you say in an earlier post (maybe the post of your success at the Pearl?) that you were using 4" minnows in Tandori chicken? Because I can't find those buggers anywhere, but would love to give them a try.
Cheers!
well done nice fish must be a few of them getting around the bay at the moment i got 1 at margate last night as well will do a report later on it hope a few more come your way

I don't think you can get 4inch minnow in Tandoori Chicken - only 5inch jerk shad. I used 4inch minnow in New Penny for this big fella - this is orange/red on top with black spots under neath - Fishhead has them and Tacklewarehouse Cooparoo I know has everything....my other go to SP is 4inch minnow in Watermelon (my fav).....
This is going to be an awesome snapper season....
Good fish there reddy. To get it at harries is lucky as the sounder always lights up there but they are usually travelling to there feeding spot in the shallows and you hooked the one that couldn,t wait lol. Good PB and that is one hell of a smile (lucky bugger)
Congrats, makes my day when I see someone get a new PB. Nice fish and well done Cheers
Well done mate, thats an awesome snapper.
