    This is my story..Continued..Trailer repair

The first part of this four part trilogy can be found here.

The trailer in question is 20 years old and has done a sterling job with regular bearing work and various minor bits and pieces over that time.
This will not be a wizz bang, strip it all down, regalvanize and lots of shiney bits so the reflected glare blinds you kind of job.
More like a few new bits and some wire wheel and brush work. A lick of killrust and a few more years out of the old girl.

Mainly because Im a tight bastard. Sometimes.

So, If you have read the other thread you will know I had a bit of water in the boat.Just a bit.
Cleaning it out yesterday I find the batteries were sitting in an inch of water.
The only way water could enter that compartment is if the entire deck was covered with water.
And that means that both fuel tanks were covered with water.
The 100 liter underfloor tank is sealed, with the breather rather high near the gunnell. No problem. Maybe.
The 50 liter tank in the back has the breather built into the filler cap. Definitely a problem.

This afternoon I pump out both tanks, 70 liters, and remove the tanks from the boat for further treatment.

Tomorrow the boat goes on the grass at the mates place and the fun begins.

    I will keep you updated.

Isn't it amasing how a seemingly little problem turns into a monster of a job??
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good

I noticed that you have some wood under your seat pedestals. Is that to get the seats up higher or the floor is soft? I have a Haines 565L with soft floors under the seats. What I have done is put 5mm stainless plates about 15"x 15" under the seat pedestals and they have been there now for 3 years. I know that the floors will have to replaced but money is a bit tight at the moment. Good luck on your floor tank jobs. I use to have a 17L and to have more fuel, I put 2 aux tanks in the well at the front of the boat. To keep the tanks in place, I had a frame of plywood made with two holes cut out and fitted the tanks in. Ididn't want to much weight at the back. Good luck.

Mowerman..A mate of mine hired a space suit and a sandblaster and cleaned up the rust on his trailer in no time. Its the easiest way to clean up all those hard to get at bits.

Love the HH...What weight motor is on it, do you think it needs some weight out of the back. Sorry all the questions but I'm wondering what to do with my 16r. Duckfish might be onto something with the Aux tanks up the front.

    Duckfish.
The timber(18mm ply) was put down to give more strength and a deeper base for the screws to bite when the pedestal was put on.There are no soft spots in the floor.
Scuffed up the floor area with a grinder, then the ply was bedded on resin with half a dozen screws. 2 sheets of glass matt over the top and out onto the floor. Then gelcoat. Screw the base to that.
    That sucker aint going anywhere.

Both fuel tanks are in line with the keel and in the cutout in the cabin just in front of the main tank is where the 2 batteries and a heavy arsed tool box sit.
So the main weight is up the middle of the boat.
    Until I get in.

The space suit sounds good Jack, but I dont think the neighbors would approve.
I have got a 90hp 2 stroke Yamaha on the back which does the job very well.

The boat is off and here is the sacrifice ready for some bloodletting.
    Not mine, I hope.
