Soft Plastics Rod

I have a Diawa advantage 7' rod that casts 1/16 oz jig heads fine. I use a 2500 stella with 8lb braid. I have a use for 1/40oz jig heads with the gulp worms. The rod does not like it at all. Casting maybe 25' at best.
What rod can you suggest that casts this light weight around the 6'6" - 7 ' range?

How far do you expect to cast a 1/40th & gulp ?

You certainly need a lighter rod - something like a a T Curve 702XL

I suggest a 7''+ rod if you're intending to cast such lightweight jigheads and want maximum distance.

Spend a little on the rod too. A reel of that calibre needs a sexy partner!!!

yes. i thought about sticking to 7'. Where i fish i need about 50' to get the channel edge. I was looking at the built up samurai and saltist rods. They rate at 1-2 kg line and are less rigid than the advantage. I will check out the t curve. No . i won't get an "el cheapo" rod. i am looking in the $300+ range.

50' is a big cast with no weight Dudley.
You might want to think about dropping to 6 or 4lb also.
Maybe a 7'6" BREAM BUSTER Ultra-Finesse would do the job.

Thanks lostnearbribie. I am going to drop down to 6lb on my spare spool. Had a look at the t curve today. It casts 1 - 9 grams. the weight of the jig + plastic is 4 gram. There was a nice 7' loomis there as well as a 7' samurai which i am considering

Yes .... 50ft is a big cast

40 ft would be a good cast in my estimation .
4lb braid and no wind would give you the best chance ....... & a 7' 1-2kg rod .

I do also have a 1500 diawa triforce which i will try on the new rod before i spend another $300 - $400 . The chief financial officer might crack the sads

Have a look at the Lamiglas EXS701ULBA.... very good for the lighter stuff, and a bit slower taper.

I'm guessing if you've got to cast 50ft, you've got easily spooked fish, so tossing something light to them with a slower taper is gonna be an advantage. A stella is still pretty light in that 2500 size. Its certainly a bit smaller than a Daiwa 2500, so with light fluro all the way through it shouldn't be too bad. I personally prefer a bigger spool for PE lines and Fluro for better casting with those ultra whippy sticks.

I ended up getting a loomis SJR 781 6'6" 1 pce rod with a cast weight of 1/16 oz - 5/16 oz ( 2 - 9 gram ) which is what i want. Spooled my 1500 triforce with 6 lb fins and went out to their carpark and it easily casts 40 - 50 ft with a couple of 2 gram split shot. Got a good deal on the rod as they were clearing out what loomis they had at 25% off.

Good stuff... Loomis do make a good rod. 6'6" will give you a bit more accuracy in close too.
