hhmm if the charger costs $600 then I would reckon an electronics repair place could help you out, a battery charger is not an overly complicated device, pretty sad service from them though.

    Open it up.
    There's a fuse inside.
What have you got to lose??
Or send it to me...I'll throw it out for you
    I'll even pay for postage

    Re: C-tec battie charger

you mean no fuse fitted, or fuse OK? I would doubt it would not have a fuse, it may be just a well disguised one.

Can you open it up and take a photo of the main circuit board for us?

Finga, I have a really big isolation transformer for fixing PSU's, its rated to 2.4KVA. Yell out if you are going to attempt to fix it! I would offer, but I just dont have the time.

BTW, any good TV repairman should be able to fix this. Thats providing there is still such a thing as a tv repairman.

    Re: C-tec battie charger

you will be hard pressed to find someone who can "repair" these days, most just swap a complete board and seeing as there may only be 3 boards in the whole thing, there is a fair chance it will fix it, but agreed an electronics place certainly should be able to fix it, as long as you can find one somewhere that will help out.

Yep, a picture would be nice because, Noel has mentioned, fuses don't always look like fuses.

If you think it's a throw away I would still be interested in it just to see what makes it tick.
Andy...I don't know if I have the knowledge to say I could definitely do something but it would be nice to figure out how they work and what's inside.

    Greyghost,
Good post mate, Finga has convinced me to buy on instead of running duel batteries.
Can anyone in the know tell me the following about the C TEK, i require it to charge a 115amp electric motor battery and my normal heavy duty marine crank battery.
    1. what size unit would i need to charge the 115amp battery effectively?
    2. And would this unit be ok to charge and maintain the smaller cranking battery?
    Cheers

How come every bugger blames me??

Anyways...the size of the charger would depend upon how quick you want to recharge the batteries.
A week-end warrior would only need a small capacity charger and a fella who needs the batteries recharged twice a day needs a BIG MUMMA.

The C-teks and similar are great as they are a mulit-stage charger. ie you can out them on and forget. they maintain the battery very well.

According to the manual for the small XS3600 C-tek (3.6A one) a 115A/hr battery should take about 25 hrs to recharge from 80% capacity.

I saw small 3.6A C-teks at Repco for $99 (Yeah Lippa, you were right) and they also have the 7 stage Projecta chargers on special if you know someone with an account. The Projectors start at $140 for the 7A version and up to $399 for the 35A version.
