Update HSD5x from HDS5m over NMEA 2000 network??

I've just updated my HDS5m with the latest V3 software release from Lowrance successfully, however cannot seem to find a way to update the HDS5X over the NMEA 2000 network installed on my boat (installed last weekend, HDS units now happily talking to the Suzuki DF115!).

I have followed the Lowrance instructions for updating the HDS5x from the HSD5m via the ethernet connection, but that doesn't work with the NMEA 2000 connection that I have. I don't have an ethernet cable.

Anyone done this or know how to? Appreciate any suggestions.

can you explain what you have tried doing already. Do you have any Lowrance cable accessories?

The 2 x Lowrance HDS units are connected via a NMEA 2000 network cable. This network also includes the Suzuki engine interface that allows the Suzuki engine data to be displayed on both Lowrance units. It also allows sharing of some data (eg GPS position data, depth data etc) between the 2 Lowrance HDS units.

I did talk to Lowrance Customer service today, and they say that the software update cannot be done via the NMEA 2000 network. They say that I will have to buy a $40 ethernet cable from them to connect the 2 HDS units and will then be able to update the HDS5x from the HDS5m over the ethernet network.

But as they say, the official answer is not always the only/correct answer, so if you've found a way around this issue then I'd love to hear from you.

I dont have a nema conection between the 2. I bit the bullet & brought the cable, took for ever, nil stock in Oz when i got it. Leigh
