this wire runs, from the starter motor, through some type of junction box (white box type connector in top picture), back to the wiring loom, back to the fuse box (assume the ECU is in there).

trying to understand if this is the white wire that should be connected to the battery.

it looks out of place and has non factory connections and electrical tape, as well as a join, that is somewhat unusual.

honda that white wire supplies most of the power of the system through the 60a main fuse and then splits one way to the rectifier unit and another to the 30amp sub fuse.
after the sub fuse it splits 3 ways to power the ignition switch ,power trim and tilt and the main relay

the small white wire with a 15a fuse connects directly to a battery or i suppose to the battery isolator main terminal if you have dual batteries and goes to the ignition switch and supplies power to it. from memory its switched to the grey wire which goes to the ECM and this must have 12v on it. earlier models (i think up to 2004>5 ) did not have this wire and looped of the startermotor. it also loops out of the switch back to another spare connector in the harness.

its an 08 engine, just wonder if you see the white connection to the starter motor, as normal? no problems if it is just is an unusual configuration.

Honda why don't you just run a temporary wire from the battery to the white wire to test it (either clamp or bolt the connnector so as not to damage it)

honda i cant see in the picture any issue with the connection.
As i said from the manual your 08 model has the wire coloured white. in my model 09 it is a red wire. goes to the same places only dif colour.

ooops sorry Honda had another look at the manual and your model is the same as mine, there shouldnt be a white wire comming of the starter model terminal only 2 reds?

the problem with getting old is u cant see if its a cherry or something with a piece of cotton tied to it.

Honda they did the same thing with mine but I had it changed on advise from the Suz mech When the wire is installed on the starter motor the resultant voltage drop associated with starting caused the voltage to drop on the ECU. to overcome this the wire is extended through the loom to the start battery then fused and attached to the terminal
The manual shows it fused but not connected to the battery it is harder to do it this way (takes longer) thats why they have taken the easy option and connected to the starter motor terminal. This still works if there is no significant voltage drop on start however as the battery ages the voltage drop increases on the starts and then it becomes a problem. Hi Guys... just thought that having started this thread I should bring you up to date and thereby close it ... You might recall ( to save you the problem of reading the whole post again ... that I had a problem with my Suzuki 90 hp 4 stroke activating the diagnostic alarm twice . After getting my engine fixed at a bit over $200 I had occasion to chat to the original boat yard ( who claimed that they knew about the problem and how to fix it ) who installed the engine and they offered to investigate the whole problem with a view to getting me a refund of charges that I had paid above what they considered they would have charged .

Well they got back to me recently and advised me that they had been able to get me a refund of $140 which I thought was pretty damn good of them. I have no idea who coughed up the money but the bottom line is that I now have my engine fixed and I have been reimbursed what had been considered an excessive fee due to various misunderstandings between the players involved.

Alls well that ends well.
