    Re: plenty of redclaw

i've only just discovered red claw, I have only been out twice. both times we got around 100 or so on 1/4 oranges. 8 pots over night, best results in 5-6m deep, active at night, quiet in the day.

still working them out, one pot would have 15 or so and another pot only 10m away would have 1 or none, same bait and depth?

water temp was 18 deg on my sounder on the 2nd trip 2 weeks ago, do they shut down in winter/cold at somerset?

I will definately use the flesh next time if you reckon you can get 50 of them. I thought 6 big ones was good. I only had the 4 pots, but the old man is going to buy some, so that should allow us to try more areas. Thanks for tips though.
    How did you go?

Did you end up catching more on fleshy rocky as opposed to just skin?

You also need to discover new spots, even the most unlikely areas. One problem we had was with idiots in ski boats , bastards never slow down, they have a mentality that seems to be me, me, me and no other person / boat to take into consideration. A few cowboys like that ruins the moment for the rest.

Bondy, I'd sacrifice a pot just to see the rope wrapped around a pond lice skiers leg as they whizzed past me.
Tossers have a compulsion to come way to close, I suspect its so you can "admire" their form.
    Tossers.

Yeah I know where you're coming from buddy. The only thing that would please me if they joined David Jones's locker or went for an airborne scutter over a submerged log

Had an incident last year at Somerset where a 10year old boy on his first ever fishing trip managed to cast, hook, line and sinker into the rear seat of a ski boat that came too close . Took some landing, and had to beat to death with an oar but never came close again for the rest of the day.

    Hi all,

Use any bait for Red Claw, most vegies, bananas, watermelon, dog nuts,
chicken pellets, and any bony bream that get caught in the pot.
The crays get stuck into them as well.

Numbers vary from dam to dam, but recently on our last northern trip we got plenty of big ones in the northern rivers of Q.L.D.

    Great eating and good fun.

    Have fun Haji-Baba

Bony bream and chicken pellets would attract eels no doubt, dog nuts?? ghee I think bluey would be upset to hear that. I would have thought Kimberley oysters myself.

Northern Rivers of Qld have bag limits as opposed to SE Qld.

    Thanks for the info though

Yes Bondy, you have to know your geography and the precise rules or you are gone.

Be aware of the possesion limits for "Cherabin" also.
They can be plentiful in Red Claw pots as well.
    The numbers differ.

There are also a lot of "local rules" floating about so be a bit careful.

Most "local rules" are put up as guides only and have no real power.

"The Nortern Rivers" of Q.L.D. cover a lot of territory so bone up on the maps.

Where I go for mine, there are no issues except pesky skiboats that have no considertation for others on the water especially when fishing , (where the hell they get their licence from)?
