Well, we can pick em!!! After Stuey managed to secure us a permit this year, our stars finally aligned and we were able to both take last Friday off to have our 1st crack at NPD. As is usually the case, the weather was against us. At 1st, we thought we would be OK as the inclement weather had kept the wind down to barely a wiff. We met up with some regulars at the ramp who passed on whatever tips they could, reports for lure fishing were not good! Still, that's never stopped us before!!! The circuit board on the bow mount packing up probably should have but we still had the transom mount.......ahhhh, I love the smell of electrical arcing in the morning!!!!
When the rain came, it came in buckets, half way through one of the dumpings I looked at Stueys feet standing up on the front castin deck and mentioned the water that was pooling heavily between the grooves in the hull, a quick jump to the rear of the boat and a flick of the swich for the pump saw a good 25 litres exit to stern!
It was right before the next downpour that my Blue Gill TN60 stopped abrubtly just off the base of the tree I cast at and then starting taking off express in the opposite direction, it hit so hard and pulled enough drag for me to call it for a big cattie or a big yella, we were stoked to see a fit looking Bass rise to the net, it put up a spirited fight for a fairly lean Bass.
We left the traps out for the night and Stuey returned Saturday morning to check em, that produced 45 odd Redclaw, a couple of horses. Sundays trip to check produced another 55 odd, apparently they taste great as BBQ Chilli, Garlic Butter or just plain boiled!!!! Hopefully next trip will be kinder on the Fishing side, beautiful spot but, Cheers, Jamie.
